Mercedes-Benz PH to bolster electric lineup with CLA 300L sedan?

MANILA: Mercedes-Benz Philippines could reinforce its roster of electric vehicles (EV) with the addition of the CLA 300L sedan. 

Such an assumption was made after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) released homologation papers for the said model. 

Per the details on the agency’s paperwork, the Manila-bound Mercedes-Benz CLA 300L comes with the following specifications.

To note, while the LTO already released homologation papers for the Mercedes-Benz CLA 300L, the governing body for EVs — which is the Department of Energy (DOE) — appears to have not yet issued regulatory approval for the said model at the time of writing. 

Mercedes-Benz CLA 300L global specifications 

While we await an official announcement from Mercedes-Benz Philippines or for DOE to include the model in its approved EV list, here is a quick look at what customers can expect from the Mercedes-Benz CLA 300L. 

In China, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 300L shares the same dimensions as the one bound for the Philippines. It also offers a fascia with 142 LED three-pointed star emblems that complement the central star shield, which can be individually illuminated and create a breathing-like interactive display. 

Further, the said model is regarded as the first all-electric Mercedes-Benz in China equipped with a front trunk that offers an additional 101 liters of storage space. 

Its side profile is clean with flush door handles; a five-spoke, two-tone set of wheels; side sill garnishes; sleek, black pillars; and blacked-out side mirrors. 

At the back, it boasts a GT design, which the carmaker’s Chinese arm describes as combining “elegance and dynamism.” 

Inside, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 300L for the Chinese market packs a display setup with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, 14-inch central display, and 14-inch front passenger display. 

The three screens are seamlessly integrated and form the fitted floating MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) SuperScreen. 

Another highlight of the cabin is the sedan’s panoramic sunroof, which seamlessly extends the one-piece glass roof from the windshield frame to the rear, providing a wider and more transparent view. 

When it comes to performance, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 300L sold in China has similar figures to the one coming to the country. 

In China, however, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 300L comes in two trims: the Extended-range version and the Extended-range Smart Edition. 

The latter gets exterior AMG body styling components with optional multi-beam LED headlights and an enhanced adaptive high-beam assist system; as well as optional interior lightweight aluminum carbon fiber trim or brown open-pore oak trim with inlaid aluminum strips, sport seats, and AMG components, among others.
