Mercedes-Benz showcases fascia of all-new GLC electric

MANILA: Mercedes-Benz has highlighted the fascia of the all-new GLC electric, which will make its debut in September at IAA Mobility. 

The electric mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) will wear the fitting digital grille, heralding the implementation of the German carmaker’s Sensual Purity design language. 

“Our new iconic grille is not just a new front for the GLC, it redefines the face of our brand. It is the perfect fusion of lasting design codes reinterpreted for the future, making our cars instantly recognizable,” Mercedes‑Benz Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener said in a press release. 

Reimagined icon 

For Mercedes-Benz, the chrome grille has been a central feature of its offerings for over 100 years. 

Samples cited by the Stuttgart-headquartered marque include the following: 

• Mercedes‑Benz 600 Pullman (W 100, 1963‑1981)
• The “Strich 8” (W 114, 1968‑1973)
• Mercedes‑Benz S‑Class model series W 108 (1965‑1972)
• Mercedes‑Benz S‑Class model series W 111 (1959‑1968)

As for the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC electric, it will feature a wide chromed frame, a smoked-glass-effect lattice structure, and integrated contour lighting. 

The automaker also stated that an illuminated version is available as an option, featuring a total of 942 dots backlit from behind. The optional high-tech pixel graphic can even be animated and brings the electric GLC to life. In addition, the central star and the integrated surrounding contour of the panel are illuminated.

Prior to its September debut, the folks from Mercedes-Benz have tested the all-new GLC electric, and here are some notable facts about the electric mid-size SUV. 

260 km of range in 10 mins 

The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC electric can do up to 260 kilometers (km) after a quick charge of just 10 minutes. 

Per Mercedes-Benz, the model is fitted with an 800-volt system with technology that optimizes efficiency and performance, significantly reducing charging times when combined with the latest battery generation. 

The said 260 km range can be achieved getting a charge from a fast direct current charger. 

Over 2,000 kg towing capacity 

The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC electric can tow up to approximately 2,200 kilograms — or 2,4 tons. 

On that note, the electric mid-size SUV will be ideal for hauling trailers. In other countries where towing is common, the Mercedes-Benz GLC electric can be used to pull “large caravans, boat trailers, or horse trailers.” 

It has electronic stability control with trailer stabilization and trailer maneuvering assistant to allow convenient and safe handling of trailers. 

The brand touts this capability that makes the model an ideal ride for “carrying your classic car or transporting a boat to the lake.” 

Intuitive infotainment 

Providing entertainment for the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC electric’s occupants is the latest iteration of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) Hyperscreen. 

According to the company, it offers an impressive spatial experience and digital elegance, with intuitive features powered by the intelligent Mercedes-Benz Operating System.
