MG Motor PH to introduce first-ever pick-up truck in PH?

MANILA: Morris Garages (MG) Motor Philippines will likely release its first-ever pick-up truck in the market.

Such is a possibility as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) recently released the homologation papers for the MG TRQ.

Here are some details about the vehicle based on the two memorandum circulars (MC GGP-2025-4590 and GGP-2025- 4589) that the government agency released.

Vehicle specifications

On the issued documents, the MG TRQ tapes in at:

It comes with 16-inch wheels wrapped in 245/70 radial tires.

Such numbers are close to those seen in the MG Extender, which is available in neighboring country Thailand.

Should our guess be correct, then the pick-up truck could be fitted with exterior features such as:

• LED illumination (projector-type auto-on headlamps, daytime running lights, tail lamps, and high-mount stop lights)
• Intermittent wipers
• Electronically-adjustable side mirrors with folding function and turn signal repeaters

Inside the cabin might be the following creature comforts:

• Six-way and four-way adjustable seats for the driver and passenger, respectively
• Multi-function display
• 10-inch touchscreen mated to a four-speaker set-up
• Power window (one touch up-down driver side with jam protection
• Multi-function steering wheel

Further, the MG TRQ might have safety technologies that would come in the form of:

• Anti-lock braking system with electronic force distribution and brake assist
• Stability control system
• Traction control
• Hill start assist and descent control
• Tire pressure monitoring system
• Rear view camera with parking sensors

Going back to the LTO papers, the MG TRQ is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel-fed engine that allows it to run as fast as 170 kilometers per hour.

Should this be the MG Extender in disguise, then the mill could provide

Maximum output (in horsepower)	160
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	375

As suggested by the names stated in the two homologation papers, the vehicles registered are available in automatic and manual gearboxes (which are likely to be in six-speed format) — both in 4x2 configurations.

We are also waiting for the pricing of the MG TRQ as the LTO identified the model as a utility vehicle, which probably mean that it will have a lower excise tax compared to its would-be competitors in the category.

Further, the MG TRQ might be retailed for around P1.351 million, which is the Extender double cab’s starting price in the Land of Smiles.
