All-new MG ZS starts at P948,888

MANILA: Morris Garages (MG) Motor Philippines has officially launched the all-new ZS and three other non-electrified variants for the local market. 

At a glance, the newest version of MG’s crossover received significant improvements to its exterior styling, interior features, and, especially for the top-spec Hybrid+, a new electrified powertrain similar to the one currently used by the MG 3 Hybrid hatchback. 

So, what is the next-gen MG ZS offering to prospective buyers? Let’s check it out in detail to find out. 

Exterior

As befits a next-generation model, the top-of-the-line MG ZS Hybrid+ now wears a sharper, more modern exterior design reminiscent of other nameplates in the brand’s portfolio. Up front, the five-seater ride was provided with a more intricate-looking fascia with angular corners. In between the aforementioned is a large grille.

Topping off the front end of the vehicle are a pair of LED headlamp clusters with integrated LED daytime running lamps. 

From the side, the model boasts numerous character lines, complemented by the typical black plastic cladding commonly found on crossovers. Its rear end, meanwhile, was fitted with eye-catching LED taillights, a chunky rear bumper with faux dual exhausts, and a roof-mounted spoiler. 

Some of the most notable exterior amenities present on the MG ZS Hybrid+ top-spec trim include the following: 

• Panoramic sunroof
• Roof rails
• Automatic headlamp functionality
• Power-folding and adjustable side mirrors
• Side mirror heating
• Rain-sensing wipers
• 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels
• Rear windshield defogger

Interior

Step inside the all-new MG ZS Hybrid+ and one will be greeted with a neatly arranged cabin brimming with creature comforts. 

For starters, the model offers ample room for five occupants (including the driver) and features an automatic single-zone climate control system, leather upholstery, and numerous soft-touch surfaces. 

Specific to the driver of the next-gen model is a six-way power-adjustable seat with lumbar support. The one behind the wheel also has access to a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, leather-wrapped tilt and telescopic steering wheel, a push-to-start button, and an electronic parking brake - among others. 

The model also has a drive mode selector positioned on its center console. Its selectable modes concern power management, and it includes economy, normal, and sport modes. 

For its main infotainment screen, the all-new MG model received a 12.3-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The aforementioned goes together with a six-piece speaker system, USB ports, and Bluetooth connectivity. 

Other notable interior amenities present inside the ZS Hybrid+ include:

• Front and rear center armrests

Safety

The primary safety features for the MG ZS Hybrid+ include anti-lock braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent and hold control, anti-rollover protection, electronic stability control, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, tire pressure monitoring, ISOFIX, six airbags, and a 360-degree view camera, among others. 

Apart from its standard kit, it also has a suite of advanced driver-assist systems, which include: 

• Adaptive cruise control
• Automatic high beams
• Active emergency braking
• Pedestrian and bicycle detection
• Traffic jam assist
• Blind-spot monitoring
• Lane change assist
• Rear-cross traffic alert
• Lane departure warning
• Emergency lane keep assist
• Forward collision warning
• Intelligent speed assist

Powertrain

For the top-spec MG ZS Hybrid+, it utilizes a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine combined with an electric motor and a lithium nickel manganese (NCM) battery. Power is sent to its front wheels via a three-speed hybrid automatic gearbox. 

At maximum, the said powertrain can generate up to 194 horsepower (hp) and 250 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. 

The mid-spec MG ZS Sport trim, on the other hand, has a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine under its hood. It is also front-wheel-drive (FWD), and its power is managed by a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with seven gears. 

At most, the Sport trim can dish out 167 hp and 275 Nm of torque. 

Last but not least are the Luxury and Comfort variants, which utilize a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter inline-4 engine that can produce up to 108 hp and 141 Nm of torque. Both also get a CVT.
