Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer concept gets renamed to e-Yi concept for China

MANILA: Back at the Geneva Motor Show, Japanese automaker Mitsubishi showcased their Engelberg Tourer concept. Next week at the Shanghai Motor Show, it will rebadge the same concept car for the Chinese market to e-Yi.

Mitsubishi has been updating their cars with its Dynamic Shield design language, from the biggest to smallest models. Likewise, the e-Yi sports is an evolved version of the Dynamic Shield face with a two-tier headlight setup. Roof-mounted LED pod lights are also part of the lighting arrangement.

According to Mitsubishi, the profile ‘’is crafted from a bold and sharp monolithic panel composition’’ with the muscular fenders asserting mobility and flexibility. The rear end of the e-Yi concept has a hexagonal shape tailgate with slim long LED lights giving the look of stability.

Even though no interior images of the e-Yi concept were shared, we can expect it to be the same as the Engelberg Tourer concept. This means it will use Mitsubishi’s Horizontal Axis theme which provides good visibility and gives the cabin an airy feel. A large 12.3-inch screen is present for the instrument cluster, and one of similar size is also used for the infotainment system.

We can expect the same hybrid powerplant found in the Engelberg Tourer to be used in the e-Yi concept. It will feature dual motors and a 2.4-litre petrol engine (which serves as a power source/generator for the electrical system). On battery power alone, a range of up to 70 km is expected, but on a full tank of petrol and fully charged batteries,

the range increases to over 700 km. The e-Yi Concept is a full-time 4-wheel drive vehicle thanks to electric motors on each axle and Mitsubishi says that they will use the latest 4-wheel drive technology available, with some of it being derived from the Lancer Evolution. It will have features like Active Yaw control and Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC).

Another highlight feature is the Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS). The system supports the driver on highways by assisting the operation of the accelerator, brakes, and steering.

Using the connected car system to link up to the driver’s smartphone, the car uses information from various services on the weather, temperature, topography, traffic information, and road conditions expected on the trip to select the optimum route.

Along with the e-Yi concept, Mitsubishi will be displaying 5 other models. These are the Pajero, ASX, Outlander, Eclipse Cross, and Euphreme EV/PHEV.
