Mitsubishi Destinator earns 5-star 2025 ASEAN NCAP rating

MANILA: The Mitsubishi Destinator — which will be formally introduced in the Philippines a few days from now — received a five-star safety rating from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP).

Based on the results, the seven-seater sport utility vehicle got an overall score of 77.27 points after undergoing the 2021-2025 assessment protocol.

Breaking down the numbers, the tested model (particularly the GLS trim produced in Indonesia made for its host country as well as Philippines, Vietnam, and Brunei) got 27.75 in the adult occupant protection category, 16.54 in child occupant protection, 15.02 in safety assist, and 11.02 in motorcyclist safety.

Helping the model reach the highest rating in the safety assessment are the standard features such as:

• Four airbags
• Electronic stability control
• Anti-lock braking system
• Seatbelt reminder system for front and rear occupants
• Pedestrian protection
• ISOFIX for child safety seats across all variants

Additionally, the tested vehicle has Autonomous Emergency Braking features for inter-urban and city, forward collision warning, blind spot detection for both driver- and passenger-side doors, automatic high beam, and lane departure warning.

PH-spec Mitsubishi Destinator details

Here are some details about the Mitsubishi Destinator that will be revealed locally this coming November 20 at the Ring Garden, Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

The midsize crossover will be offered in three variants at the following prices:

On paper, the all-new Mitsubishi Destinator measures slightly smaller than the Montero Sport as the former is 4,680 millimeters (mm) long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,780 mm tall.

In terms of looks, the vehicle looks highly similar to the Mitsubishi Xforce — thanks to its modern-looking illumination system.

All variations are equipped with a 1.5-liter 4B40 turbocharged gasoline mill, which are expected to provide churns of up 160 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque. Power is sent in a front-wheel drive setup using a continuous variable transmission.
