Mitsubishi suffers downward sales trend in ASEAN region

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s sales in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) market for the first half of the fiscal year 2025 has dipped by 12,000 units.

    Broken down, here is how many cars Mitsubishi Motors Corporation sold in the major ASEAN markets: 

    Thailand

    13,000 units 

    Indonesia 

    32,000 units 

    Philippines

    42,000 units

    Vietnam

    17,000 units

    Others

    8,000 units 

    Based on the table above, the Philippines is the brand’s strongest market in the region. Relatedly, it sold 65,421 units in the first nine months of 2025 (based on the joint report from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated and the Truck Manufacturers Association).

    Focusing on a strong second-half comeback, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation looks to introduce new models in growth segments. 

    As a result, we saw the facelifted version of the Mitsubishi Xpander and Xpander Cross multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) unleashed not too long ago. Likewise, the Destinator is set for a local launch sometime this month. Talks about an updated Montero Sport are also abuzz after the Land Transportation Office released homologation papers for the said model

    In the Oceania region, the company sold 36,000 units in the first half of the year. In 2024, it sold 42, units in the region in the same period.

    Good results in Lat. Am., Middle East, Africa 

    Despite facing challenges in the ASEAN and Oceania regions, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation fared well in Latin America, the Middle East, and in Africa. Cumulatively, it raked in some 70,000 units in the region, reflecting some growth compared to its 66,000 unit sales back in the first half of 2024. 

    Broken down, the manufacturer sold around 34,000 units in Latin America with 36,000 units sold combined in the Middle East and Africa.

    Key to the success of its first-half sales in 2025 in the aforementioned markets includes expanded product lineups, as well as reinforced distribution networks. The brand also worked on collaboration with local partners to boost sales in the sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment. 

    Best-selling models in PH 

    Mitsubishi Motors Corporation did not disclose which models are among its best-sellers in the regions mentioned above. However, in the Philippines, the nameplates raking in sales for the company include the Mirage G4 and the Xpander and Xpander Cross. 

    The Mitsubishi XForce also shows some promise as it appears to be a more compact version of the upcoming Destinator.
