Mitsubishi set for Pajero reintroduction in Q4 2026

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) is set to formally re-introduce the Pajero nameplate late this year.

In a statement, the Japanese automaker shared that the midsize sport utility vehicle’s (SUV) upcoming version is scheduled to have its world premiere in the final quarter of 2026—some five years after being discontinued in 2021.

According to Mitsubishi, the all-new Pajero will come with a ladder frame chassis, which is also found in the Triton and Montero Sport models. This reinforces Zigwheels Philippines' guesstimate that it might be the next-generation Montero Sport for the local market. 

Further, the all-new Pajero is being developed as a new flagship model that “embodies Mitsubishi Motors' spirit of adventure and determination to take on challenges.”

The latest development came after the Mitsubishi released a teaser video posted over its Youtube page that showed a huge sport utility vehicle at the end of the clip. As seen in the corporate video, the model features a boxy body with front illuminations resembling the Elevance Concept formally revealed at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.

Making its debut in 1982, the Mitsubishi Pajero first came out as a recreational vehicle (now known as a sport utility vehicle). Since then, it combined off-road performance of a full-fledged four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle with the comfort of a passenger car.

Additionally, the model sold 3.25 million units all over the globe across four generations.

In 1983, the Mitsubishi Pajero competed in the Dakar Rally after securing 12 wins—including seven victories.

Further, the Mitsubishi Pajero led the RV boom of the 1990s in its home country and even had several body type configurations such as a kei car (Pajero Mini) and compact SUV (Pajero Junior and Pajero iO).
