MX6 trademark filed by Mazda, again
MANILA: We all remember the MX6 from the 90s. It was a coupe which wasn’t quick and was neither too slow. It was more for every common person out there for touring and some occasional fun. Then there were the RX-7 and the RX-8. And eventually, both were discontinued as well. Just like the MX-6. However, Mazda still has something up its sleeves and might just be surprising us all with a successor of the MX-6 in the near future.
The rumours have arisen because of a trademark filed by the Japanese car manufacturer. At the Japanese Patent Office, Mazda has filed for the trademark of the name MX-6 for use in “automobiles and parts and accessories thereof”.
The sedan coupe which hit the road from 1987 to 1997 and saw two generations was powered by either a 4-pot or a 6-cylinder motor. It was a front-wheel-drive car that was aimed at the common man. Contrasting to the likes of MX-5 and the RX-7 which were a full-fledged flagship sports coupe.
With the new Mazda cars featuring some jaw-dropping design languages, the new MX-6, if it ever makes to the production house, should be one hell of a coupe. Other benefits the sedan should enjoy include the newer SkyActiv engines and rear wheel or all-wheel drive modes. Concepts like the RX-Vision and the Vision Coupe also hint towards something happening out of the box. However, the renewing of the trademark might also mean that the manufacturer has just done it for saving the name from being misused by others in the industry. We will still keep the hopes high though.
In the Philippines, the Japanese automaker offers some sweet looking cars like Mazda 2, MX-5, CX-5, Mazda 6, and CX-9 among others.
