Nissan unveils ‘most potent Patrol ever’

MANILA: Nissan has unveiled the high-performance version of the Patrol — which is touted as the model’s “most potent version ever.”

Called the all-new Nissan Patrol NISMO, the Japanese automaker said that model was created by mixing the “robustness of a sport utility vehicle with the precision of track-inspired engineering.”

Revealed in the Middle East, Nissan noted that the all-new Patrol NISMO is explicitly developed through extensive customer insights from the region and is tailored to the market’s driving preferences and performance expectations.

Further, the company mentioned in its statement that the unveiling of the all-new Nissan Patrol NISMO demonstrates the Re:Nissan strategy's market-specific focus — taking advantage of the large SUV segment in bolstering the marque’s presence and profitability in the Middle East.

“Since the introduction of the first Patrol NISMO in 2015, our customers have continually valued its mix of performance, exclusivity, and craftsmanship. This all-new model was developed from the ground up utilizing customer insights from across the Middle East. It has been rigorously tested in the region’s most challenging environments, underlining the significance of this market to Nissan,” Thierry Sabbagh, Divisional Vice President and President-Middle East, KSA, CIS for Nissan and Infiniti), was quoted as saying.

“With its race-inspired styling and powerful 495 HP engine, the all-new Patrol NISMO offers the thrilling sensation of a sports car while maintaining the commanding presence of an SUV, an ultimate icon with unmatched edge and authenticity. Building on the legacy of its predecessors, the all-new Patrol NISMO is purpose-built for those who seek exhilaration without compromise,” the executive added.

The aforementioned numbers indicate that the vehicle is 90 mm longer, 40 mm wider, 49 mm lower and four kilograms heavier than the model’s standard version in the Middle East.

Exterior

In terms of exterior design, the vehicle sports:

• Updated V-Motion grille with a three-dimensional honeycomb mesh
• Grille side curtains at the front bumper
• Extended rear spoiler
• Rear side air splitters
• Layered air diffusers
• Layered double wing
• Formula E-inspired fog lamps

The all-new Nissan Patrol NISMO can be had in any of the five color options (in mono- and dual-tone versions) namely:

• White Pearl
• Gray Metallic
• Blue Metallic,
• Black Pearl
• Stealth Gray (NISMO-exclusive)

Further, the vehicle sits on nine-spoke, 22-inch forged aluminum alloy wheels (uniquely designed and co-developed with RAYS) wrapped in 275/50 high-performance tires. While similar in size, the said design — Nissan noted — is 23-percent lighter compared to the base model’s and offers improved lateral stiffness and brake cooling efficiency.

Interior

Welcoming occupants inside the cabin is a black-and-red color scheme — with genuine leather and soft suede-touch materials; contrast stitching on the dashboard, seats, steering wheel, and doors; as well as metallic elements in some portions.

Giving the SUV is athletic appeal are:

• Signature NISMO logos on headrests
• Red seat belts
• Red start/stop engine button
• Carbon fiber-inspired portions
• Aluminum accelerator and brake pedals

Powertrain, tech

Propelling the all-new Nissan Patrol NISMO is re-tuned 3.5-liter gasoline-fed VR35DDTT engine with twin turbo which can provide churns of:

Maximum output (in horsepower [hp>)	495
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	700

For comparison, the standard Nissan Patrol’s twin-turbo V6 engine can already dish out 425 hp.

Power is sent to the wheels via recalibrated nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Other Nissan Patrol NISMO-exclusive parts include:

• E-dampers that automatically adjusts in real time (sharpening responsiveness and enhancing ride stability whether attacking corners or highways)
• Patrol NISMO-specific electronic power steering system
• Exhaust system that gives a deep throaty note complemented by the Active Sound Enhancement inside the cabin

The all-new Nissan Patrol NISMO will be retailed across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and the wider Middle East starting next month onwards.
