Pasig City LGU electrifies fleet with Toyota Zenix

MANILA: The City Government of Pasig, under the leadership of Mayor Vico Sotto, has received 10 examples of the Toyota Zenix.

The aforementioned vehicles were acquired by Pasig City under its three-year re-fleeting program, which follows the guidelines of Republic Act No. 11697, otherwise known as the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA).

Specifically, EVIDA mandates that at least 10 percent of national agencies' and local government units' (LGU) fleets should be electric or hybrid vehicles. The acquisition of the hybrid fleet likewise lines up with Pasig City’s goal of sustainable governance through the utilization of environmentally friendly technologies. 

Notably, the Pasig City government highlighted the fact that these Toyota Zenix HEV units were acquired via the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM). This, according to the PS-DBM Deputy Executive Director for Administrative, Finance, and Legal Group Atty. Marlita Dagsa, makes the aforementioned Pasig City government acquisition efficient and more transparent.

Toyota Zenix HEV: specs, features

The variant of the Toyota Zenix that now forms part of Pasig City government’s fleet is the HEV Q CVT. Currently, it starts at P1.991 million. 

Propelling the model is the 2.0-liter inline-four M20A-FXS hybrid gasoline engine. The aforementioned is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) sending power to its front wheels. 

At maximum, the Toyota Zenix HEV Q CVT can produce up to 149 horsepower and 186 Newton-meters of torque. 

For ride quality and stability, the model uses a front MacPherson strut and a rear torsion beam suspension system. Stopping power is provided by disc-type brakes for all four wheels. 

Inside the Toyota Zenix HEV Q CVT is a seven-seater layout, specifically with second-row captain seats and a 50:50 tilt-down third row. The aforementioned captain seats and the driver’s seat get power adjustability and reclining. 

Other noteworthy interior features of the Zenix HEV Q CVT include leather upholstery, automatic air-conditioning, Type-C USB charging ports, a wireless charging pad, and a 10.1-inch infotainment system with six speakers. Connectivity for the said screen is done via wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

The driver, meanwhile, has access to the following: 

• Leather multi-function steering wheel
• Tilt and telescopic steering column
• Seven-inch digital gauge
• Paddle shifters
• Drive mode selector
• Electronic parking brake with autohold
• Keyless entry

For safety, the model primarily depends on a suite of advanced driver-assist systems, which include a pre-collision system, automatic high beams, lane trace assist, lane departure alert, dynamic radar cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert - among others.
