PH fuel companies extend fuel subsidy for DOTr Free Ride Service Program

MANILA: Philippine fuel companies, namely Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc., Petron Corporation, and CleanFuel, will further extend free fuel subsidies to bus units participating in the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Free Ride Service for Health Workers Program. These fuel subsidies will be provided until May 31, 2020, and will cover the whole duration of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) implemented in Metro Manila.

Initially, the fuel subsidies were set to end last May 15, which is also the supposed schedule for the lifting of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the National Capital Region (NCR). However, upon declaration of the national government that Metro Manila and other high-risk areas will be under MECQ, the three fuel companies have ensured continuous fuel assistance until the end of May.

Free fuel from these three companies will aid bus units in saving up on expenses while ferrying medical frontliners and healthcare personnel to their respective workplaces daily.

Bus units can go to seven (7) Phoenix Petroleum service stations, namely, PNX AFA PSPC-Filinvest-Northgate in Alabang Muntinlupa; PNX RETAIL CODO-Potrero in Malabon; PNX RETAIL CODO- Malanday1 in Valenzuela; PNX AFA PSPC-NAIA Road in Parañaque City; PNX RETAIL CODO-Mall of Asia in Pasay City; PNX RETAIL CODO-Bahay Toro in Quezon City; and PX RETAIL CODO-Timog in Quezon City, to access free fuel.

Phoenix Petroleum has committed to donating 50 liters of fuel per day to sixty (60) private bus companies included in the DOTr Free Ride program, which amounts to a total daily allotment of 3,000 liters.

Meanwhile, four (4) Petron stations have been designated to assist private bus units. These Petron stations are situated at East Avenue in Quezon City, Macapagal Blvd. in Parañaque City, Filinvest in Alabang, Muntinlupa, and in Mandaluyong City.

Petron has also ensured that it will continuously give 50 liters of fuel to 60 vehicle units a day or a total daily allotment of 3,000 liters. San Miguel Corporation (SMC) infrastructure donated a sufficient amount to cover the fuel subsidy program of Petron Corporation.

As for CleanFuel, bus units can benefit from the extended fuel assistance at CleanFuel Pioneer and Kamias stations. CleanFuel has also assured that it will provide 810 liters of fuel per day for 16 bus units. Since the fuel subsidy program of CleanFuel has been implemented last April 8, the fuel company has continuously offered 50 liters of free fuel a day for every bus unit. As a result, the total daily allotment of donated fuel will be 44,450 liters until May 31.

Aside from these three fuel companies, DOTr has also collaborated with Total Philippines and Sea Oil Philippines for free fuel subsidies to participating bus units of their program.

The DOTr Free Ride Service for Health Workers program, which began last March 18, aimed at assisting in terms of the transportation needs of medical frontliners to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. It has attained a total ridership of 770,464 for the entire country as of May 13. From this number, 611,500 came from regions outside Metro Manila, while 158,964 came from NCR.
