PH-spec Suzuki Carry gets PUV Class 1, Patrol Van variants

MANILA: Suzuki Philippines has added PUV (public utility vehicle) Class 1 and Patrol Van variants to the Carry lineup.

Per the local wing of the Japanese carmaker, the introduction of the new purpose-built trims aims to address the specialized transport and mobility requirements of organizations, local government units, and institutional users in the country. 

“With these new additions, Suzuki Philippines gives organizations and institutional customers more choices within the Carry lineup, providing practical mobility solutions designed around their specific needs,” the company wrote in a press release.

Vehicle specifications

Suzuki Carry PUV Class 1

Designed for organizations looking for a practical passenger vehicle, the Suzuki Carry PUV Class 1 is fabricated with a side entry layout with a removable door and a canvas cover. It features wide windows with roll-up canvas, side-facing seats, and a high ceiling.

The variant is also fitted with a fire extinguisher.

Suzuki’s PUV Class 1 Carry model is Department of Transportation (DOTr)-certified and is compliant with Philippine National Standard (PNS) specifications. 

“Its configuration makes the Carry PUV Class 1 suitable for transport cooperatives, resorts, local government units, and other organizations that require this type of passenger vehicle,” Suzuki Philippines noted.

The Suzuki Carry PUV Class 1 model is priced at P849,000.

Suzuki Carry Patrol Van 

Designed to answer the mobility and operational requirements of local government units, barangays, and other groups that are looking for a dedicated patrol or public service vehicle is the Suzuki Carry Patrol Van.

Fashioned with reversible seats, checkered plate flooring, roll-up canvas covers with locks, embedded side steps, and a siren with a “public address” system and blinker. It seats 10 people, including the driver. 

“These features make it a practical option for patrol operations, community assistance, and other public-service activities that require a versatile and functional vehicle,” Suzuki Philippines commented.

The Suzuki Carry Patrol Van costs P822,000.

Availability

Per Suzuki Philippines Incorporated, both variants will be available through the company’s authorized automobile dealer network.

Suzuki Carry powertrain, chassis 

Despite the differences in body types, all Suzuki Carry variants — including the currently available Cab and Chassis, Dropside, and Cargo Van grade levels — use a 1.5-liter, four-pot, naturally aspirated gasoline engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The above powertrain configuration makes some 95 horses and 135 Newton-meters of pulling power.

Power gets sent to the rear wheel axle and is aided by a heavy-duty differential. 

Smooth deceleration and quick halts are facilitated by ventilated discs at the fore and leading and trailing drum brakes at the rear. Its body is supported by MacPherson struts (with coil springs) at the front and over-slung-type leaf springs at the back.

While Suzuki Philippines did not state whether or not the two new variants will get different wheel sizes, it is to be expected that they will also use the nameplate’s 13-inch steelies shod in 165/80 series road tires.
