Suzuki suspends Jimny 5-door orders in Japan, cites ‘high demand’

MANILA: Suzuki has temporarily halted the accepting orders for the Jimny 5-door — shortly announcing the model's official launch there scheduled on April 3.

In its advisory, the company said that it has suspended the acceptance of orders for the vehicle (called the Jimny Nomade) after receiving an overwhelming demand there.

Per Suzuki Japan, the upcoming model has approximately 50,000 orders already, which “far exceeded” their sales plans.

“We will make company-wide efforts to resume orders as soon as possible, so we ask for your patience for a little while longer,” Suzuki Japan noted.

Meanwhile, the firm gave the assurance that it will continue to deliver vehicles that have already been ordered.

“We sincerely apologize to customers who are considering or placing orders for the vehicle, for any inconvenience caused,” the company added.

Relatedly, advanced exhibitions and exhibitions at events scheduled at shopping malls nationwide will also be canceled following the suspension of order acceptance.

To note, the Jimny 5-door is being manufactured in Suzuki’s plant in India.

To recall, the Suzuki Jimny reached the Philippine market in January 2024 and has become one of their highly-appreciated models under the Japanese marque since.

Slightly bigger than its three-door counterpart, the vehicle has the following dimensions (to accommodate two more doors and adjust the position of the rear seats):

Exterior

Aside from the size and the additional doors, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door does not sport much difference from the 3-Door version in the aesthetics department. 

Up front, the five-door model wears the signature five-slot grille bordered by the round headlamps and fog lamps at the bottom.

Other distinct features of the vehicle include: 

• Upright A-pillars
• Flat clamshell bonnet
• 15-inch dark-metallic alloy wheels
• Electronically-adjustable side mirrors

Interior

The cabin of the Philippine-spec Suzuki Jimny 5-Door also sports a familiar layout.

It welcomes occupants with the three-spoke steering that has buttons for the following:

• Audio controls
• Cruise control
• Phone control

Other amenities that can be found inside the four-seater off-roader vehicle are:

• Front and rear cabin lights
• Assist grips for all passengers
• Four cup holders
• Two 12-volt sockets and a USB port

Powertrain

Moving the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door is the same four-cylinder, 16-valve, fuel injected, 1.5-liter, K15B gasoline engine that can dish out the following numbers:

This mill is mated to either a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual gearbox.

Guaranteeing stability to the vehicle are the three-link rigid axle with coil spring while its disc brakes facilitate its decelerations and halts.

Offered in two trims, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door is being retailed in the Philippines at the following prices:

• GL MT: P1.558 million
• GLX AT: P1.698 million
