Toyota Motor PH confirms 9th-gen Hilux local debut

MANILAShortly after being launched in ThailandToyota Motor Philippines (TMP) confirmed that the latest version of the Hilux will arrive in the country next year.

While its arrival is certain, the Japanese automaker’s arm in the country has yet to share the details about the upcoming version’s official debut here.

Such an announcement is part of the global brand’s plan to introduce new Hilux (now on its ninth generation) in select markets from fiscal 2026 onward — which will begin in April 2026.

This would also heat up the electrified pickup truck segment that currently has the BYD Shark 6 DM-OChangan Nevo Hunter K50, and Radar RD6 ECON. The first two are utilizing both internal combustion engines and electric motors, while the last one, a full battery-powered.

Here's what the newest Toyota Hilux could be bringing to the Philippines.

Probable specifications

Contrary to what was offered in the Land of Smiles, the Philippine-bound Toyota Hilux might still carry the 2.4-liter turbodiesel powertrain — but limited to the lower to middle variants as these are providing good sales figures to them. The 2.8-liter diesel-fed engine will be seen in the top-level options.

Further, Zigwheels Philippines has a strong belief that TMP might also bring the pickup truck’s battery electric vehicle version to push Toyota’s multi-pathway approach to mobility as highlighted in Toyota Motor Asia’s presentation recently. If brought to the country, the local distributor might call it Travo — similar to treatment given to the Ativ with the Vios, and Zenix with the Innova.

For the likely-arriving electrified option, the pickup truck will have the dual eAxle powertrain mated to a 52.9-kilowatt-hour energy bank.

This version can dish out:

193

Approximate range (in kilometers)

Charging options

  • Direct current: 125-kilowatt (kw) CCS2 port
  • Alternate current: 11-kw port

Further, the incoming Hilux for the Philippines might also paved the way for Toyota pickups getting the following technologies:

  • Toyota Safety Sense 3 with enhanced pre-collision and lane-keeping functions.
  • Panoramic View Monitor and Multi-Terrain Monitor for superior visibility and control in all environments.
  • Next-generation infotainment with smartphone integration and connected services that enhance the ownership experience throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.

How do you think the upcoming Toyota Hilux will fare in the market?

To note, the current Toyota Hilux has been around since 2020.

Under its hood is either a 2.4- or 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel powertrain mated to a manual or automatic gearbox (both in six-speed configurations).

Among the technologies that are outfitted in the outgoing Hilux in the country are those under the Toyota Safety Sense such as:

  • Pre-collision system
  • Lane departure alert
  • Dynamic radar cruise control

Aside from that it also has an anti-lock braking system with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, vehicle stability control, hill start assist and downhill assist control, as well as clearance and back sonars.
