Toyota recalls Corolla, Matrix, and Avalon over faulty airbags

MANILA: Airbag recalls have been hurting automakers from some time now. And, on this occasion, it is Toyota, who has ended up recalling millions of its vehicle due to faulty airbags. The recall issued by Toyota involves 3.4 million vehicles around the globe, with 2.9 million from the US alone.

Moreover, the vehicles affected by the recall are as follows:

• Toyota Corolla - 2011 to 2019
• Toyota Matrix - 2011-2013
• Toyota Avalon - 2012-2018
• Toyota Avalon Hybrid - 2013-2018

According to Toyota, the aforementioned models may incur incomplete or non-deployment of the airbags due to a capricious electronic control unit. Fortunately enough, no unit of the Corolla is affected in the Philippines, confirmed Toyota Philippines.

Back in 2019, a similar airbag computer problem forced Toyota Motor Philippines to recall numerous vehicles in the country. The recall included 12,124 units of the Toyota Rush, and the fault stated was that the airbag computer could deploy the curtain shield airbags in case the rear wheels face and impact. The issue was resolved by Toyota Motor Philippines via a Special Service Campaign.
