Updated BYD Seal 5 DM-i covers more than 2.1K km on a single full tank

MANILA: The newly introduced updated BYD Seal 5 DM-i and the all-new Atto 2 have both broken their respective on-paper extended ranges, as confirmed by a verification test by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP). BYD Cars Philippines announced this to the public during the official launch of the two models. 

The test vehicles were driven by the team of Ramirez & Cutter Events and were taken on long routes around northern Luzon. At the finish line, the BYD Seal 5 DM-i managed to cover a whopping 2,181.4 kilometers (km) on a single full tank of gasoline. This is equivalent to around 36 percent more than the said sedan’s on-paper extended range of 1,600 km. 

Meanwhile, the BYD Atto 2 DM-i that Ramirez & Cutter Events drove was verified by the AAP to have covered 1,340.1 km, which is around 28.24 percent more than its on-paper indicated extended range of 1,045 km. 

At the launch event of the two models, BYD Cars Philippines also shared that the BYD Atto 2 DM-i was capable of reaching a fuel economy of up to 28.78 kilometers per liter (kpl), while the Seal 5 DM-i is a fair bit more economical at 32.71 kpl.

BYD Atto 2 DM-i, Seal 5 DM-i: specs

The BYD Atto 2 DM-i is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) that uses a single motor setup, a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, and a 7.9 kWh battery. At maximum, this system can send up to 162 horsepower (hp) and 300 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque to its front wheels. 

For charging, the Atto 2 DM-i uses an alternating current (AC) port that can increase its battery levels from 15-100 percent in two hours. The model also comes with a regenerative braking system. 

As of its launch, the BYD Atto 2 DM-i retails at P998,000 for the Dynamic and P1.208 million for the Premium. After its introductory period, the Dynamic will retail at P1.048 million, while the Premium will be available for P1.258 million. 

Moving on to the BYD Seal 5 DM-i, it uses a similar front-wheel-drive single-motor PHEV setup as its crossover sibling. It also gets a 1.5-liter gasoline internal combustion component. Altogether, this can put out 161 hp and 210 Nm of torque. 

Notably, the powertrain of the updated Seal 5 DM-i is the fifth-generation Super DM-i powertrain, which saw improvements to its weight, electronics, and gasoline engine component efficiency. 

Introductory pricing for the updated BYD Seal 5 DM-i is set at P898,000 for the entry-level Essential and P998,000 for the Dynamic. After the promo period, the Essential will retail at P948,000, while the Dynamic will be priced at P1.048 million.
