Volvo and Geely to Expand C-Segment Vehicles
MANILA: Seeing the increasing demand of compact cars, the Chinese auto brand, Geely and the Swedish manufacturer, Volvo have decided to come up with new C-Segment models in the market. For this, the two companies have opened a facility in Sweden which is currently looking for such technological resources and efficient employees who are capable enough to work on every small aspect in developing a car. The CEVT which stands for China Euro Vehicle Technology will be the engineering and development center for future C-Segment cars.
CEVT will follow the same modular technology approach which has been in grip of many others existing auto manufacturers. The special characteristic of this technology is the 'scaling strategy' which offers variations on overall length, width, height, wheel base, and other characteristics of the vehicles. Further, it is helpful in cost cutting, making the process quicker and allowing the manufacturers to satisfy other demands of customers.
As stated in a report, a hybrid powertrain and a mechanical all-wheel drive will be part of the new architecture. The new platform is also expected to use an electrified rear axle along with twin-engine hybrid, as found in Volvo. This Swedish brand had already declared that the next Generation V40 will adapt the CEVT program chassis and it is expected that some future Geely models would also sit on the same platform.
