Volvo XC40 EV confirmed for 2019 launch; XC90 EV to follow by 2021

MANILA: Electric cars are really the future. With the quick depletion of the fossil fuel reserves, electricity-driven cars seem like the only plausible option that might be left to generations down the line. With this in mind, almost all big names in the automobile industry have released electric cars or have tried electrifying previously fuel-driven models. One such big name is Volvo, and they have finally confirmed the electric version of the hugely popular XC40 for 2019.

Thomas Ingenlath, the chief design officer of Volvo cars have announced recently that the company will not be making new models for electric cars, rather they will be electrifying their previously released models. And the XC40 is such a debut to this new policy they are planning to integrate with their car releases. XC40 will be the first fully electric Volvo car, which will shortly be followed by the release of the XC90 in 2021.

So, what is Volvo trying to achieve with their new motto? Volvo’s main game plan is to ensure that almost 50% of their sales are involving electric cars, by the year 2025. They refuse to allow hugely popular cars such as the XC40 to go out of the market in future because of the decline of fuel driven cars. Instead of making something new, they will be sticking to their guns - improvising on the tried and tested models and making them go hand in hand with the upcoming generation needs.

Volvo, now completely Geely owned, also are incorporating environmentally conscious decision making in their new policies. In fact, since the release of the S60, they’ve completely refused to offer diesel variants for their upcoming cars.

Being released first in Hong Kong, the XC40 was given special media attention by the Filipino reporters, and the trend will probably continue with the release of the EV version is 2019. The Philippines has always tended to be more an eco-friendly nation, so it was not much of a shocker when the XC40 EV release announcement caused a huge uproar.
