Piaggio takes over Vespa distributorship in PH

MANILA: The distributorship of Vespa in the country has been turned over to Piaggio’s local arm.

    Present during the presentation was Willy Tee Ten, president of the Moto Italia, which previously brought Vespa motorcycles to the country.

    “I would also like to extend our appreciation to Moto Italia for their valuable contribution in building and nurturing the Vespa brand in the Philippines over the years, and for their trust in passing the baton to Piaggio Philippines Corporation,” he said.

    All-new Vespa, Primavera 180

    The two new Vespa offerings are the all-new Sprint 180 and Primavera 180, which will replace the 150cc-powered counterparts of the previous generation (while retaining the 125cc-propelled options).

    “Today marks not only a new beginning, but also an exciting step forward as we proudly introduce and launch in the Philippines the latest evolution of an icon: the new Vespa Primavera and Vespa Sprint 180,” Guelfo noted.

    Here’s what you need to know about the two newly launched models.

    Motorcycle specifications

    Both motorcycles are fitted with bigger 174-cubic-centimeter engines — ready to deliver more output compared to their predecessors. These are mated to continuously variable transmissions.

    While they are both three-valve, four-stroke, single cylinder, i-get, catalyzed mills, they have varying churns as seen in the table below:

    The two new products roll on 12-inch tires, while their stopping power are guaranteed by a 200-millimeter (mm) disc-type at the front with anti-lock braking system and a 140-mm drum brake for the rear. Their tanks can carry 7.5 liters of fuel.
