Recent Updates of Yamaha Mio Aerox 155

Yamaha’s Mio family of automatic scooters got its most advanced and expensive teammate in the form of the Aerox S very recently. Equipped with ABS, stop-start system, smart key, and exclusive colors, this has upped the impressive package that is the Aerox 155. First launched here in early 2017, this stylish and sporty scooter has gained immense popularity in a very short time. Underneath the edgy and modern body is a capable chassis with a front mounted fuel tank. The sporty design is backed by a powerful 155 cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled and fuel injected engine with four valves producing 15.1 PS at 8,000 rpm and 13.8 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm – being sent to the road through a V belt transmission and fat tires. The Aerox also boasts modern features like a 25-litre U box, electric socket, LED lighting and fully digital instrumentation.

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is a cut above the rest. Yes, it is only 155 cc but at its engine displacement class, it has everything that even the most demanding customer may have on their list. Adding anything else to it might feel like overkill at this point. And then there is nothing else on the market that comes close to it. At Php 99800, yes it is quite expensive. Yes, it looks more like a sporty sneaker than a formal leather shoe. But its performance lives up to that promised by its appearance. It is also just as advanced as it looks. Since its launch in 2017, it has become the yardstick to measure all scooters against. And rightly so.

It is easy to find this scooter attractive for being so aggressive. The front looks like it could bite. A bike like the Honda PCX or the Yamaha NMAX are appreciated more by their riders than by the people on the road. So you are going to attract a lot of eyeballs and for a very long time. The shape is made up of sharp angles that look like they could cut just by staring too long. The front and rear section carry scowls accentuated by LEDs and the integrated grab handle in the rear. The seat does not ride too high and looks fat and comfy. There are three color options, all complemented by matte black – Black Raven, Vibrant Orange, and Yamaha Blue. The Yamaha Blue comes with color matched three twin spoke wheels. So no lack of style here. Its dimensions are compact at 1990mm (L) X 700mm (W) X 1125mm (H). The wheelbase is 1350 mm and the ground clearance is 140 mm. The seat height is 790 mm. Being a mishmash of a maxi scooter and an underbone, there is big spine in the middle with footboards on each side. 14” wheels on either end are wrapped in fat 110/80 53P tire in the front and 140/70 62P tire in the back. This then is not something you’d want to take even the slightest bit off-road. It has many urban and modern features too. A gigantic 5.8” LCD panel digital display with white text on blue background serves as the very funky and comprehensive instrument cluster. The spine mounted fuel filler cap, starter and the seat are unlockable from the same spot. There is even a remote starter. Under the seat is a cavernous 25L storage space that can easily store a full face helmet. It even has a 12V power outlet with a protected space for keeping devices.

Ride & Handling

The seating is compact, especially due to the small footboards. But other than that the riding position is comfortable. The seat is wide but flat so it’s easy to move about. The handlebars are low and do not tire out the rider on long drives.  Fat 26 mm forks in the front and dual shocks in the rear are set for comfort. The handling is nimble and the tires give a lot of confidence to get good banking angles. It is a breeze to ride in the city traffic and almost feels like a bike. The not too heavy kerb weight of 116 kg also enhances the handling.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

The Aerox’ body makes many promises of performance. And the engine more than keeps up with them. Using a liquid cooled fuel injected SOHC 4 valve single cylinder engine, it can produce 14.8 hp at 8000 rpm and 13.8 Nm of torque at 6250 rpm. It also uses variable valve actuation that lets it control the fueling according to the engine speed. This lets it have high torque at low speeds and high power at high speeds. Speaking of high speed, the Aerox can easily reach speeds of up to 120 kmph. The engine is also enhanced with Yamaha’s Bluecore tech that reduces wastage of fuel with a host of engine tech. For added measure, it even gets a smart motor generator that allows silent starts while saving weight. All these enhancements make the Aerox very fuel efficient with average fuel economy figures of 45 kmpl. The fuel tank at 4.6-litre is decent and gives it good range.

Braking & Safety

Safety needs to be a high priority for something at this price range. There is a single hydraulic disc brake in the front while the rear gets a drum brake. While ABS would have been great it does not feature on their spec sheet. Nevertheless, the brakes are adequate enough for most purposes.

On the whole, the Yamaha Mio Aerox is a great underbone motorcycle. It is modern, stylish, powerful and practical. It is also slightly expensive but very much worth the price. If you want the best in urban underbone commuting, this is just about the best that you can get.

I was the kind who had no interest on scooters ever. I always felt to unleash your masculine and rugged self you need to possess a sturdy and compact bike only. But my entire interpretation has been proven wrong with the latest advent of Yamaha - Yamaha mio aerox 155. This bike has come up in market for a while. Read More

    Power packed scooter

When my son started to go to college, he wanted a new scooter to make it more convenient for him to travel. His pick was the Yamaha Mio Aerox 155. I was immediately impressed by the looks, the keyless ignition system and ABS. The engine is also very silent and performs well. The only downside I felt was that the Read More

    I just like it.

This scooter has the looks, the performance and the price. The yamaha aerox 155 is a good motorcycle in my honest opinion. I just wish that they can make more improvement on the stock shock because it is a little bit bumpy on rough road, however there is no perfect motorcycle so its fine. Read More
