BYD Seal 5 DM-i: high-tech interior

BYD Cars Philippines launched the Seal 5 DM-i not too long ago.

The attractive electrified sedan not only looks handsome but is also offered with an attractive sticker price. With a base variant that is just below P1 million, it has the potential to sway those who have set their eyes on segment staples like the Toyota Vios, Honda City, and Nissan Almera.

Looking to make the deal a lot sweeter is the hybrid car’s high-tech cabin, which — due to proper execution — can attract a wide range of customers, especially today’s generation of car buyers.

On that note, let us take a quick look at the tech-savvy interior of the newly launched BYD Seal 5 DM-i.

Rotating infotainment system

Those who have seen BYD Cars Philippines’ other models will instantly recognize the rotating infotainment system installed on the center of the Seal 5 DM-i’s dashboard.

Like the BYD Atto 3, Seagull, and Sealion 6 DM-i, the Seal 5 DM-i uses a high-resolution infotainment unit that not only turns to change its orientation but also allows gesture controls for faster adjustment of things like the air conditioning unit temperature and fan speed.

The 12.8-inch infotainment screen is also wireless Apple Carplay- and Android Auto-ready, so connecting one’s smartphone can be done seamlessly and without the use of annoying cables.

Accompanying the infotainment unit is an 8.8-inch digital display cluster one would normally find on higher variants of today’s sedans. Here, drivers can view the below information:

• Speed
• Battery level
• Estimated range
• Selected, engaged gear

In addition, some trivial data can be checked through the instrument panel such as the time and the temperature.

Leather upholstery

The BYD Seal 5 DM-i’s cabin is swathed with leather upholstery. These materials can be found on the car’s seats, door panels, dashboard, and center armrest.

BYD put perforation on the leather trims on the seats so as to allow better airflow when driving on hot days. Meanwhile, the placement of soft-touch leather on the center armrest and the door cards gives the driver and the passengers a supple experience. Finally, the dashboard looks on fleek thanks to the use of the said hide.

Stylish gear selector

The gear selector used by the BYD Seal 5 DM-i is a knob, contrary to the conventional stick-like shifter found on most compact sedans on the market. This creates a luxurious feel and elevates the overall driving experience.

BYD placed the gear knob on a beautiful console where the start/stop button is. Likewise, the driver can access the electronic parking brake as well as controls for the car’s drive modes and other features in the same cluster.

The controls on said panel create a “centralized” theme and make the operation of the BYD Seal 5 DM-i’s features convenient.

Variants, pricing

The BYD Seal 5 DM-i is offered in the country in two variants, Dynamic and Premium. They are priced at P948,000 and P1.198 million, respectively.
