Toyota Rush - How safe is the Rush?
The 2018 Toyota Rush is the newest addition to the mass automobile market in the Philippines and is the company’s newest offering. It was introduced here just recently, that is, on May 4, 2018. And since the introduction, it looked extremely promising right from the outset and is highly sculpted, just like the Mitsubishi Xpander.
However, there is a lot more to the Rush other than just the aesthetic bit. The SUV is one of the safest vehicles in its segment as well as in the price range and has an extremely sturdy build.
Not buying on this fact? Here are some of the features that would make you believe that it ranks among the safest cars in its segment.
Safety equipment
et’s start off with the basics. The Toyota Rush has a total of six SRS airbags on offer, even on the base variant. The airbags are given for the front row occupants, on the sides and curtains. Hence, with a price tag of under Php 950,000, the Rush does rank high.
Moreover, ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution are added as standard along with vehicle immobiliser, security alarm, stability control and electronic door lock. For the drivers’ assistance, Hill Start Assist is also added to the standard package.
What does the ASEAN NCAP have to say about the Toyota Rush?
Back in May 10, 2018, the results of the ASEAN NCAP safety test on the Toyota Rush was published. And much like the hype about the car, the company did not disappoint here. Despite being the entry-level SUV to the company’s huge lineup, the safety rating was amazing.
The Rush managed to fulfil what the enthusiasts were expecting from it by earning a full 5-star rating. The SUV received a cumulative rating of 84.03 points. This, of course, is a huge improvement over its previous generation model. Back in 2015, it had just received a 4-star rating.
What’s more about the Toyota Rush?
The goodness on the Toyota Rush does not end with the safety concerns only. It also has a very refined engine with a smooth transmission gearbox. The 1.5-litre engine under the hood of the SUV is capable of making a maximum power of 102 hp at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 134 Nm at 4,200 rpm.
As for the transmission, the base variant of the car has a 5-speed manual gearbox while the other two trims have a 4-speed automatic unit. Power is sent down to the rear wheels in all the trims.
Misc
The Toyota Rush has a very futuristic design with a highly sculpted front end and attractive rear. It has a high ground clearance of 220 mm and can carry 213 litres of cargo luggage. Inside the cabin, there is dual climate control and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system added as standard across all the variants.
Verdict
Interestingly, the Mitsubishi Xpander was believed to be the toughest competitor to the Rush at the time of the launch. However, around a week following the launch, it was proved that the Mitsubishi model was not as safe as the Rush with just a 4-star rating and 71.66 points at the same test level.
Having seen through everything that the Toyota Rush offers in the safety department and many more, it is quite justifiable to conclude that the SUV is probably one of the best 7-seater in its segment.
