2019 Lamborghini Urus now in the Philippines
MANILA: Remember the 80s? Popular for its super-sport-cars.Lamborghini brought out one of the most outrageous SUVs ever produced. Called the Rambo Lambo, the luxurious yet off-roading capable SUV was officially named as the LM002. It didn’t only look big and bad but was actually one hell of an SUV. We’re in 2019 now. Things have changed, and so is the automobile industry. We hardly get to see vehicles like the Rambo Lambo anymore.
Lamborghini, however, came up with the successor of the LM002 earlier this year. The newest SUV from the Italian stable is the Urus. Despite being the successor of the Rambo Lambo, the Urus is nowhere similar to the LM002 by any means. Lamborghini folks wanted to enter the premium SUV segment, and boy they have made their entry in some style. Their desire to make the world’s first super-SUV is we’d say, somewhat fulfilled. The 2019 Urus was launched in the Philippines at Okada Manila in the presence of the PGA Cars Chairman Robert Coyiuto Jr., Lamborghini Manila president and CEO Robert Coyiuto III, and David Sfrecola, Lamborghini Sales Director.
The CEO, Robert Coyiuto said during the event, “The Lamborghini Urus is a model that’s born out of Lamborghini’s vision to continually defy boundaries and with it, the desire to create the world’s first super SUV. We are very proud to bring this groundbreaking car to the Philippines”.
Measuring at 5112 mm long, 2016 mm wide, and 1638 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3003 mm, the Urus is based on the MLB platform of the VW Group. Thanks to the air suspension, the ground clearance can be set to anywhere between 158mm and 248 mm. This is the same platform that underpins the likes of Audi Q7, Volkswagen Touareg, Bentley Bentayga, and Porsche Cayenne. The chassis, however, has been reworked to give it that Lamborghini persona. The Urus features the trademark aggressive, muscular, and not so curvy appearance. One can get 22-inch or 23-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres as an optional upgrade. The standard wheels, however, are of 21-inch.
The interior of the Urus is one of a kind as well, just like the super-SUV. For starters, we have a flat-bottom steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and the iconic red start button. Sitting between the various drive modes is the shifter. The Urus comes with 6 different drive modes which include Strada, Sport, Corsa, Sabbia (Sand), Terra (Off-Road), and Neve (Snow). Driven by 4 channels, is an 8 speaker sound system which can be beefed up with the Bang & Olufsen Sound System that features 3D sound along with 21 speakers and an output of 1,700-watts. The Lamborghini Smartphone Interface (LSI) also makes its way to the infotainment system and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with Baidu-Carlife. The elements inside of the Urus get the touch of premium materials like Alcantara, aluminium, wood, and carbon fibre.
The super-SUV is produced in Sant'Agata Bolognese facility, Italy, which is exclusive to the Lamborghini Urus. It features a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine capable of pumping out 658 PS @ 6000 rpm and 850 Nm of peak torque @ 2250 rpm. All four wheels get the power via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. There is also a rear wheel steering which has been borrowed from the Aventador S. 0 to 100 kmph in the Urus takes only 3.6 seconds, and the top speed is 305 kmph. The braking duties are handled by massive 17.3-inch ceramic rotors which are coupled with 10 piston callipers. 100 kmph to a standstill requires only 33.7 metres for the Urus.
The waiting period for the Urus has shot up to 12 months. Along with the launch models, the Philippines will get 20 more units of the super-SUV by early 2019. The official pricing of the Lamborghini Urus in the Philippines will be disclosed soon.
