2019 Toyota Avanza: Variants explained

Considering the growing competition in the MPV segment, Toyota Philippines finally launched the new and updated 2019 Avanza in the country. While new Avanza is majorly a facelift and not an entirely new model, it is still a lot better than the outgoing one. The refreshed Avanza is available in a total of 6 variants, while the 2019 Toyota Avanza price starts at Php 731,000. In this story, we are going to breakdown all the variants for you.

1.3 J MT

This is the base model of the 2019 Toyota Avanza and as you would have guessed it, it is the most affordable one with a price tag of Php 731,000. As the name suggests, it is powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine which produces 95 hp of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 121 Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. There is only a single transmission available with this model and it is a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.3 J MT is the only variant of the Avanza that comes with 14-inch steel wheels.

In terms of looks, all the variants are very similar. They all get the new front fascia. The front end has been completely revamped with a split headlamp (halogen in this case) setup and a much more prominent grille. At the rear, there is a thick horizontal chrome strip that joins the two tail lights adding a bit of premium-ness. The cabin space is the same as before. This variant gets a 2DIN audio system and 2 speakers for entertainment purposes. The 3-spoke urethane steering wheel doesn’t get mounted controls. For safety, there are dual front SRS airbags and ABS with EBD.

1.3 E MT

This is pretty much similar to the aforementioned variant with a few additional features like 14-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, rear window defogger, anti-glare inside rear view mirror, etc. However, unlike the 1.3 J MT, this one here is a 7-seater. The 1.3 E MT is priced at Php 864,000.

1.3 E AT

It’s the same as the 1.3 E MT but comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission whose gear shift lever and knob are of urethane with chrome accents. This variant will set you back by Php 907,000.

1.5 G MT

This is where things start to change a bit. The 2019 Toyota Avanza specs show that the 1.5 G MT gets a slightly more powerful engine - a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 103 hp at 6,000 rpm and 136 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. It is mated to the same 5-speed manual transmission that comes with the 1.3 E MT and 1.3 J MT models. This variant gets front fog lamps and black radiator grille with chrome garnish. It also gets a rear wiper along with chrome back door garnish. There is even a rear spoiler for that added sportiness. On the inside, there is a new 6.8-inch WVGA display that supports T-link smartphone mirroring along with USB, AUX, and Bluetooth connectivity. It is linked to 4 speakers. The steering wheel gets audio controls as well. Toyota has priced the 1.5 G MT at Php 957,000.

1.5 G AT

This is one is also the same as the 1.5 G MT but comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission for which you will need to pay Php 43,000 more as this model costs Php 1 million.

1.5 Veloz AT

The 1.5 Veloz AT is the range-topping variant of the 2019 Toyota Avanza. It is priced at Php 1.06 million. It is slightly longer than the rest of the lot measuring at 4,200 mm. To impart some premium-ness in this model, Toyota has given it a smoked chrome radiator grille. We also get to see the same treatment at the backdoor garnishing. On the inside, the 1.5 Veloz AT model comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Even the gear shift lever and knob are wrapped in leather. Another added feature on this model is the chrome inside door handles.

So, these were the six variants of the new Avanza. Apart from the Veloz, all the other variants are available in six colors - White, Black Metallic, Beige Metallic, Silver Mica Metallic, Gray Metallic, and Dark Blue SE. The 1.5 Veloz AT, on the other hand, comes in - White, Black Metallic, Silver Mica Metallic, and Dark Red Mica Metallic.
