Cars that are called 'Traffic Breakers'

MANILA: Different cars appeal to buyers, some go by the looks while others need a performance vehicle. But if major part of the day is spent in rush-hour traffic, you should avoid cars that have big fuel diet, are loud and the one's that offer a bumpy ride. We here present you a list of top five premium segment and mid-segment cars you should consider if heavy traffic is part of your daily commute.

Top five premium segment cars -

2015 BMW i3

The 2015 BMW i3 is a 4-door hatchback, with a setting capacity of four passengers. Powered with a 125 kW electric motor fed by a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery pack; it generates a resulting output of 170 hp and 184 Nm. This EV drinks fuel at the rate of 137/111 mpg making it fuel efficient. On the entertainment side, it includes features like Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and a sound system that includes a USB audio interface, an auxiliary audio jack, and satellite/HD radio.

2015 Fiat 500

This Italian creation is offered in both coupe and convertible options, each of which are loaded with amenities like  Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, auxiliary audio input and iPod integration. As for the engine spec, it runs on a 1.4L 101 HP in-line 4-cylinder power mill that is capable enough to generate 101 hp of power @ 6,500 RPM. This four seater hatchback offers a fuel economy of 31/40 mpg.

2015 MINI Hardtop

Mini is finally delivering a practical five-door hatchback that now offers a greater rear leg room space. The modestly boosted DOHC 16-valve 2.0L in-line 4 develops 189 hp @6000 rpm and 270 lb-ft @1250 rpm. Further, it offers a fuel economy of 28-29/36-37 mpg on city and highway respectively. The sporty three-door hatchback benefits from the newly standard rain-sensing windshield and also carries the automatic climate control from last year model.

2015 Smart Fortwo

Fortwo is best explained as a two passenger mini car that car fits itself to the smallest of places. Best for the commuters living in traffic packed place like Metro Manila. Unlike its size, it carries a heavy technology package that includes a navigation system, and a seven-speaker surround-sound audio system. Under the hood, a 1.0L 70 HP in-line 3-cylinder motivates this micro car, thus developing 70 hp @ 5,800 rpm. Such an engine spec gives it a fuel consumption diet of 34/38 mpg.

2015 VW Beetle

Beetle is a car that needs no introduction, its unique body shape, and design language makes it a winner in the beauty race. Not only this, the new Beetle is now equipped with features like steering wheel audio controls and a multi-information computer that displays fuel consumption and other prominent details. This retro-styled car is motivated by a1.4L twin cam 16-valve turbocharged and gasoline engine That generates 160 hp of maximum power and 240 Nm of maximum torque, further it delivers good fuel economy at 22 km/h in the city and 95 km/h on the highway.

Top five Mid-Segment Cars -

Suzuki Celerio 1.0MT

With the entry of Celerio in the Suzuki family, this Japanese car maker has created dominance in the automobile industry as the most fuel efficient sub-compact car. Its 1.0L in-line 3-cylinder engine churns out a maximum power 68 hp @600 rpm of and maximum torque of 90@4800 rpm. With a fuel efficiency of 34.34 km/h, it promises to take you miles. Further, its smaller turning radius and great aerodynamically designed body increases its maneuverability.

Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboosto

Respectable performance with ideal fuel economy seems to be the basic idea behind the creation of Fiesta. The EcoBoost Fiesta also enjoys an edge in EPA fuel-economy ratings- 32 mpg city and 45 mpg highway, tops among non-hybrids. The DOHC 1.0L 12-vaulv inline 3 –cylinder engine generates an optimum power of 123 hp @6000 rpm and maximum torque of 148 lb-ft @ 1400 rpm. Further, its air-con and audio system ensure a pleasant ride.

2015 Chevrolet Spark

Chevrolet Spark is a four-door four-passenger subcompact car that displaces some great fuel efficiency and technology. First up, on the engine side it carries a 1.2L in-line 4-cylinder power mill that generates 84 hp of power @ 6000 rpm. This small car has 34/42 mpg of fuel economy inching away the crown from its competitors. MyLink information touch screen system, Siri Eyes free mode, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot increase its utility and entertainment quotient.

Kia Rio 1.2

This comfortable, dependable and spacious five- setter is all set to give a tough competition to its counterparts present in the market. It provides greater leg and shoulder room to the passengers along with a number of storage cubbies and pockets dotted in the doors. Under the hood, its 1.2L petrol engine generates optimum power and torque, but it is the 19.6 km/h economy rate that has become it a major selling point.

2015 Mitsubishi Mirage

Last on our list is the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage, this five setter hatchback id offered in two trim levels: DE and DS. Both of which are packed with some great features like automatic climate control, tilt-only steering wheel and four speakers audio system CD player and USB audio inputs. The 1.0L engine develops just 74 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of torque, but when paired with an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) it returns truly impressive fuel economy: 37 mpg in the city, 44 mpg on highway.
