Discounts, donations issued to frontliners by Caltex, brand partners

MANILA: Chevron Philippines, Inc. (CPI), marketer of Caltex fuels, continues to express its support of and appreciation for frontliners of the COVID-19 crisis through donations and fuel discounts.

In a release, CPI said that “medical frontliners, uniformed personnel, local government unit frontliners, and delivery partners” will be extended fuel discounts of P4.00 and P2.00 per liter for gasoline and diesel, respectively, until May 15.

Additionally, the One Voice Pilipinas fund of the firm’s superstore partner Landers has received P250,000 from Caltex. The program says its secures a week’s worth of food for a needy family for every P1,000 donation. The effort’s microsite can be visited here. 

Following an earlier donation made by the Caltex Makati Credit Cooperative to the Kaya Natin! Foundation, Caltex employees pitched in an added P170,000 to the foundation which aids volunteers in transporting health workers from various pickup points to medical centers in Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, Northern Star Energy Corporation, a marketer of Caltex, handed over personal protective equipment comprised of N95 face masks, surgical masks, and hazmat suits to the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center and the Ospital ng Santa Cruz in Zambales. Through the retailer, Caltex Candon 3, the firm also provided assistance to some 43 barangays in Ilocos Sur -- distributing live chickens and fresh milkfish to the residents.

Another marketer, William Tan Enterprise, Inc., contributed 30 containers of 70% ethyl alcohol to frontliners in Palawan which include staff of various medical institutions, LGUs, and uniformed personnel.

Chevron companies also made an earlier donation of almost P1 million to the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation Inc., JAC Liner, Kaya Natin! Foundation, and Grab Philippines in support of the COVID-19 frontliners.

Said CPI country chairman Louie Zhang, “We remain optimistic that we will all get through this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. As we all practice social distancing and personal isolation, our frontliners continue to fight the battle for us… Let us all stay indoors, stay safe and do our part to flatten the curve.”

Caltex reported that about 91% of its stations remain up and running despite the quarantine of many areas nationwide. Even as they stay open, these stations are reported to adhere to the one-meter physical distancing protocol, and implement regular temperature checks and frequent cleaning of areas with high human touch points on top of the usual hygiene practices and standards.
