Ford to launch 2018 Mustang Convertible in the Philippines

MANILA: Ford Philippines is all set to introduce the Mustang Convertible in the country. The manufacturer had pulled the wraps off the Convertible version of the iconic pony car in January last year. It looks almost similar to its coupe counterpart, except the fact that it gets a flatter rear decklid design owing to its convertible form factor. In addition, it is also planning to bring in the updated coupe model that was unveiled last year.

The all-new Mustang Convertible gets reframed headlights, wide grille, and lower nose at the front to retain the aggressive iconic look. The side profile of the car takes you back to the 1960s design and gets the coke-bottle like quarter panel. Towards the rear, it flaunts the company’s famous three-bar LED tail-lights with a slightly tweaked design.

Interior of the Mustang Convertible gets several significant tweaks as well, besides the changes in the coupe version. The seat upholstery gets new patterns and new colour options. The centre console of the car gets additional hand-stitched equipment with contrast stitching and features a 12-inch LCD display that is customizable according to the user’s preference. It can be used either in Normal or Sports mode and displays three separate views.

The Philippine-spec Ford Mustang is expected to be offered with either a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine or the 5.0-litre V8 engine. The engine mechanism for the Convertible variant remains the same under the hood. Apparently, the American manufacturer has upgraded both the engines recently to get an improved performance in return. Though no information about the power and torque parameters are revealed yet, the engines are likely to be paired with a ten-speed automatic gearbox.

Interestingly, Ford Philippines did mention that the ‘Stang’ will get a MagneRide suspension to provide optimum handling. Moreover, the owners of the car will also have the option to make use of the active valve exhaust that aids to further tuning of the engine performance. We might see this beast at the upcoming Manila International Auto Show 2018.
