General Motors Obtained the Self Driving Car Kit

MANILA: General Motor Company has recently declared about its acquisition of San Francisco Software company, which enables Cruise Automation. The trend of Self Driving Car is picking up the pace and various brands are looking forward to join the bandwagon. In conjunction to this, GM also aims at producing Chevrolet Volt semi-electric automobile along with the introduction of Autonomous Technology.

Earlier this brand had endeavored to bring across an out of the box technology that was based on the foundation of Augmented Reality. The project was named as the “Windows of Opportunity” that was incorporated in four different applications namely OTTO, FOOFU, SPINDOW and POND. All these applications had enabled the passengers to have a pleasurable and entertainment filled driving experience. The applications created interactivity between the rear window application and the traveler.

Mr. Dan Ammann (GM President) mentioned in one of his statements that, “Fully autonomous vehicles can bring our customers enormous benefits in terms of greater convenience, lower cost and improved safety for their daily mobility needs.” In the similar context, we are aware that Google had already come up with the idea of Self-Driving Cars long time back. In addition to this, few other brands namely the very recent Vision Next 100 Concept Car is proposed to be self driving concept car. Under this concept, the driver is kept on high priority, with the provision of easy connectivity, presence of high end technology, and digital intelligence. This model prides to possess an aerodynamic body structure founded on the autonomous driving innovation.

As per the vision of Mr. Mark Reuss (Vice President: Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain), the Cruise will enable the company to have a possession of this out of the box technology that will be unparalleled in the automobile industry. This will not only create a niche for the model but will also help in increasing the customer base.

Furthermore, the autonomous vehicles are perceived to be inspiring and deliberate, which completely follow the vision that aspires to turn transportation system much more safer and within reach. This could also be used for commercial purposes few years down the line.
