Have a look at the 2020 Ford Explorer
MANILA: Just a couple of days ago, Ford, the American automobile manufacturer revealed the new Explorer in the form of a Police Interceptor Utility vehicle. The PIU also brought with it the glimpse of the production model of the 2020 Ford Explorer. No need to guess anymore though, the American automaker has revealed the SUV in flesh.
With better capabilities on the road than ever before, the 2020 Ford Explorer now houses new EcoBoost engines and comes equipped with all the necessary tools and tricks up its sleeves. What’s more? The Explorer also features an upmarket and svelte design language when compared to the outgoing model. In its sixth generation now, the Explorer boasts a new front bumper design with integrated skid plate, redesigned front grill, and horizontal headlights.
The design language of the SUV is also reminiscent of the Ford Edge ST which was revealed not so long ago. The new Explorer has also got a shorter front overhang along with a sloping roofline. Changes at the rear include a redesigned bumper, revised tailgate housing a bigger chrome trim, and a pair of new LED taillamps.
Inside the 2020 Ford Explorer is a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system which comes equipped with SYNC 3. According to Ford, the updated SYNC 3 comes with a refined user-friendly interface and much better processing speeds. Connectivity options on the SYNC 3 include Bluetooth, Waze Integration, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The SUV also has offer stuff like captain-style second-row seats, 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, wireless charging pad for mobile devices, up to four USB charging ports including USB-C type outlets, and a 980 Watts 14-speaker sound system from Bang & Olufsen.
As we mentioned before, the 2020 Ford Explorer comes with two EcoBoost engines. The smaller 2.3-litre turbo inline-4 EcoBoost is capable of pumping out 304 PS (274 previously) of maximum power and a peak torque of 420 Nm (408 previously). On the other hand, the larger 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 can churn out a maximum power of 370 PS and 515 Nm of peak torque. Both motors are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission unit. Interestingly, the 2020 Ford Explorer gets a rear-wheel-drive as standard and only the higher trims come with 4WD. While the RWD trims are equipped with 6 driving modes, namely Normal, Sport, Trail, Slippery, Tow/Haul, Eco the higher end 4WD trims also get the new Terrain Management System along with an additional Snow/Sand driving mode which is not present on the RWD versions.
On the 2020 Ford Explorer, the driver assisting aids include Active Park Assist 2.0, pre-collision assist, dynamic braking support, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and forward collision warning, blind spot information with cross traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and auto high beam assist.
