Here’s the all-new Honda Prelude in 8 photos

MANILA: After it had its numerous encounters with the Philippine motoring media in and out of the country, Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated (HCPI) has officially started the retail of the all-new Prelude.

The Japanese automaker’s local arm made the announcement after it started the reservation period last February.

Per HCPI, the much-anticipated nameplate bridges the old and the new as it merges “nostalgic, well-loved heritage with new technology tailored for today’s market.”

Set to replace Honda Civic Type R, the all-new Honda Prelude will be the company’s new halo model for the local market.

Vehicle specifications

Designed with the concept of “Unlimited Glide”, the fifth-generation sports car in the country features low height, smooth body lines, light proportions, and increased visibility.

Complementing its low stance and sleek silhouette are its liftback door at the rear (instead of the sedan-like trunk seen on its older versions) a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels (shod in  235/40 96W tires, and Blue Brembo brake calipers with Prelude logos.

Notable exterior portions that can be found on the vehicle are:

• LED illumination all around (daytime running lamps, main headlamps, taillights, side turn signals, and high-mount stop lamp) 
•  Active cornering lamps
• Power-folding side mirrors with heating function
• Rain-sensing wipers
• Hidden door handles
• Gloss black parts on the door garnishes, side sills, front and rear bumpers

Interior

Inside, the all-new Honda Prelude offers customers with rather unique setup thanks to its asymmetrical seating layout. Also, the front seats come with white and blue perforated leather upholstery, while the rear seats are clad in black fabric. As checked at the last year’s Japan Mobility Show, the space at the back is low and cramped for most adult passengers.

Its flat-bottom steering wheel has a small portion of Alcantara at the top that provides additional accent to the vehicle.

There’s a small bench at the back, which could be cramped for adult passengers to fit in.

Other notable portions fitted in the car are:

• 10.2-inch digital instrument panel
• Nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Eight-speaker Bose sound system

In terms of cargo space, the hatchback can haul up to 760 liters — enough for a pair of large (78 cm) soft suitcases.

Drivetrain

Powering the all-new Prelude is a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle engine with the Honda e:HEV full hybrid system.

This powertrain—also seen in the existing Honda Civic—can deliver the following figures:

Additionally, the model achieved a 25.6 kilometer per liter of gasoline equivalent based on the certification from the Department of Energy.

The all-new Honda Prelude also has several suspension components similar to the Civic Type R, which gives the former similar handling compared to the latter. Friction in its suspension system has been reduced, allowing for a more flexible response at each turn of the steering wheel.

The drivetrain also boasts Coasting Control, which can be activated using the paddle shifters. This lets the vehicle coast to a stop without regenerative braking, further contributing to improved fuel economy.

Elevating the driving experience is the Honda S+ Shift technology and the four selectable drive modes namely

• Individual
• Sport
• GT
• Comfort

Lastly, the all-new Prelude kept the Honda SENSING, Honda CONNECT, and added the Google Automotive Services, for safety, security, and convenience.

 Meanwhile, Honda CONNECT allows the owner to control their vehicle remotely, while the Google built-in lets occupants also get to request commands for their car.

Available in a sole option (2.0 e:HEV E-CVT), the Honda Prelude can be had in comes in five color options:

• Moonlit White Pearl* (New and Exclusive to Prelude, additional P30,000)
• Rallye Red
• Racing Blue Pearl
• Meteoroid Gray Metallic
• Crystal Black Pearl
