Hyundai Kona hybrid comes out
MANILA: Hyundai’s SUV and crossover portfolio is already quite widespread. The South Korean automaker boasts some of the best vehicles in the market like Tucson, Santa Fe, Creta, Venue, Kona, and Palisade. Among the various Hyundai SUVs and crossovers, the Kona is one of the best selling models in the markets it is available in. Following the conventional Kona that is powered by an internal combustion engine, Hyundai introduced the Kona Electric. And now, the automaker has brought out the hybrid model of the popular crossover.
Differentiating the Kona Hybrid from the standard model of the crossover with an ICE are a grey headliner, gloss black accents on the door handles, steering wheel, and air vent bezel along with white accents around the air vent surrounds and gear shift bezel.
The Hyundai Kona Hybrid is basically for those who want a taste of both the ICE and electric dishes. The task wasn’t that for Hyundai either as it had already been selling the Ioniq Hybrid for some time now. Just like the Ioniq Hybrid, the Kona Hybrid also gets its juices from a 1.6-litre Kappa engine that works in conjunction with a permanent magnet electric motor. The battery pack on the Kona Hybrid is also identical to what we have seen on the Ioniq Hybrid, i.e., a 1.56 kWh lithium-ion polymer setup. The power figures read 141 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 265 Nm. A six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission then sends the power to the wheels.
Along with being an environment-friendly crossover, the Kona is also a pretty safe car thanks to the presence of Hyundai SmartSense. The safety package on the South Korean crossover brings along smart cruise control with stop & go, front collision warning and avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, blindspot collision warning, and lane following assist.
Europe will be the first region in the world to get the Hyundai Kona Hybrid where the automaker will start selling the crossover from the month of August, later this year. Recently, Hyundai unveiled the brand new Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) tech that is set to be introduced on the all-new Sonata. Know more about the interesting technology here.
