Jaecoo J7 SHS gets 5-star rating from Euro NCAP

MANILA: The Jaecoo J7 SHS recently received a five-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP).

In a statement, Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines shared that the latest recognition came after the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) officially range-verified the vehicle last February.

The brand’s first hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV) passed the series of tests that are based on the following:

• Adult occupant protection
• Child occupant protection
• Vulnerable road user (pedestrian) protection
• Safety assist systems

In the adult occupant protection evaluation, the Jaecoo J7 SHS scored 81 percent — with the assessors noting that the model remained stable in the frontal offset test and protected the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger, regardless of size or position in the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the said SUV had an 80-percent rating in the child occupant protection, vulnerable road user protection, and safety assist systems tests.

The Euro NCAP lauded the vehicle’s autonomous emergency braking system’s response to other vehicles, lane support system’s adaptability when the car is moving beyond the lane, and speed assistance system’s quick communication of the local speed limit to the driver.

Such technologies fortify the model’s other road safety features such as:

• DMS Driver Monitoring System
• 360-degree high-definition panoramic camera with under chassis view
• Bosch's intelligent braking system
• Six airbags

“The Euro NCAP safety ratings achieved by the Jaecoo J7 SHS has redefined the safety standards of the new energy vehicle era. With SHS as our automotive engineering’s core driving force, embedding safety DNA is paramount throughout the entire product development process,” Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines said in a statement.

Other features

Aside from the safety features, the Jaecoo J7 SHS is equipped with a fifth-generation 1.5-liter, turbocharged direct gasoline injection engine mated to a dedicated hybrid transmission. The said mill, which has Full Electric, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid, and Energy Recovery (regen) drive modes — also has an 18.3-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.

During the AAP Verification Range Test earlier this year, the vehicle exceeded the published extended range of more than 1,200 kilometers (kms) after its evaluators covered 1,488.8 kilometers on a full fuel tank and a single charge.

Arrival of PH-spec units

Relatedly, the initial units of Jaecoo J7 SHS for the Philippine market — which was previewed locally at the recently-concluded Manila International Auto Show 2025 — is expected to arrive by end of next month.

Meanwhile, those who are interested in acquiring a unit (available in Premium and Comfort variants; both priced under P1.7 million) may reserve one at Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines’ official dealerships located in Pasig, Sta. Rosa, and Cebu.
