Mazda PH to launch CX-90 this week

Mazda Philippines shall officially unveil the first-ever CX-90 in the country within the week.

The announcement was made following the invitation for the formal introduction of the model sent to Zigwheels Philippines a few months after Mazda Philippines President Steven Tan bared the company’s plan back in June 2023.

Based on the invitation, the launch is set this Friday (September 22). With that, here are some possibilities of what its customers could appreciate with Mazda CX-90.

Based on the brand’s new platform, the upcoming Mazda CX-90 is front-engine, rear-wheel-biased layout that is designed to provide a heightened driving experience.

The Philippine-spec Mazda CX-90 could be offered in the mild-hybrid e-Skyactiv-G 3.3-liter turbo inline powertrain matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission or a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine modified to operate with an electric motor and 17.8 kilowatt-hour battery — the same mill options found in its United States counterpart.

According to Mazda USA, the mild-hybrid version can provide a maximum churn of 340 horsepower while plug-in hybrid can dish out 323 horses. Both powertrains can deliver 500 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.

Driving technologies such as the Kinematic Posture Control (which debuted on the Mazda MX-5) and i-Activ all-wheel drive are expected to be available in the arriving sport utility vehicle. On the other hand, the country-bound vehicle could possibly have the smart brake support, blind spot monitoring, Mazda radar cruise control, among others.

Inside the cabin, the forthcoming Mazda CX-90 will probably be fitted with a 12.3-inch center console.

As of posting, the Japanese automaker’s local distributor has yet to share the details about the soon-to-be-revealed model.
