MANILA: Mercedes-Benz is on a spree of introducing new models globally. Not only in the Philippines but, across the globe this German automaker is working to expand its line-up in an effective manner. It is not long that updated Mercedes-Benz E-Class was introduced in the Philippines and now another avatar of E-Class, the All-Terrain Estate has been revealed globally. The All Terrain E-Class Estate will be placed directly against the Audi A6 Allroad and Volvo V90 Cross Country.
The recently revealed E-Class Estate features an increased ride height, rugged exterior styling, and is the most versatile E-Class ever. According to Ola Kallenus, member of the Daimler management board for Sales and Marketing of Mercedes-Benz Cars, the new E-Class Estate features a lot of innovative safety features along with award winning E-Class interior. At front, E-Class wagon features an SUV styled two-fin front grille and distinct front bumper. At side, the large wheel arches with black lip moldings and side skirts with chrome accents and 19 to 20-inch alloy wheels reflects that this wagon is designed to conquer any terrain with ease.
Some of the differentiating features of E-Class Wagon interiors include splashes of aluminium and carbon, floor mats with ‘All-Terrain’ lettering, stainless steel sports pedal, 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats, and 12.3-inch screen that is further coupled with navigation, audio and other infotainment features. Under the hood, there are two engine options to be offered. One is the 2.0-litre, turbo diesel, which produces 194 PS maximum power at 3800 rpm while peak torque measures 400 Nm at 1600-2800 rpm. It is further mated to 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The second is 3.0-litre 6-cylinder engine which will be added in the 2017 global model line-up. Clocking 100 kmph mark will take 8 seconds and the top speed is rated at 232 kmph.
The highlighting feature of E-Class Estate is its air body control air suspension which helps this estate to change its ground clearance according to the need. One can easily enhance the ground clearance from 121 mm to 156 mm at speeds up to 35 kmph. Overall the estate version boasts up to 35 mm more ground clearance than the regular version of E-Class. There is no word from the officials about introducing the estate version in the Philippines but, we expect that it might be launched in the country sometime in 2017.
