MG Motor PH to launch S5 EV this week

MANILA: MG Motor Philippines will publicly launch the S5 EV later this week.

In a statement, SAIC Motor Philippines (SMP), the brand’s distributor, said the unveiling of its latest offering will take place during this year’s MG New Energy Tour, an event that brings its latest electrified vehicles and technologies closer to motorists.

According to SMP, the roadshow, set for August 27 at the Trinoma Activity Center, reflects the brand’s “continued push to make electrified mobility more accessible, practical, and relevant to the everyday Filipino driver.”

The distributor added that the S5 EV’s arrival represents MG’s latest move into fully electric mobility and forms part of a broader effort to help Filipino motorists better understand and experience the growing range of New Energy technologies available today.

Earlier, Zigwheels Philippines shared details about the incoming model, which is expected to go head-to-head with the likes of the Geely EX2 and Chery QEV, following a media drive conducted last month.

Vehicle specifications

Powering the vehicle is a rear-mounted electric motor that delivers:

Maximum output (in horsepower)	167
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	250

The motor gets its juice  from a 49-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery, giving the S5 EV a claimed range of up to 415 kilometers on a full charge.

Additionally, the MG S5 EV’s profile helps it achieve a drag coefficient of 0.28.

Inside, the MG S5 EV features a mix of leather and fabric upholstery, complemented by the following features:

• 10.25-inch instrument cluster
• 12.8-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Four-speaker audio system
• Air-conditioning system with automatic climate control
• Rotary shift knob

Nationwide roadshow

The start of MG Motor Philippines’ nationwide roadshow will bring its electrified lineup directly to motorists in different parts of the country, featuring hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric vehicles.

After the Trinoma event, the roadshow will continue in different regions over the coming months.

According to MG Motor Philippines, the initiative aims to make new-energy mobility easier to understand and experience, giving customers more choices as they consider their next vehicle for everyday use.
