MG Motor PH to showcase three new nameplates at PIMS 2026

MANILA: Morris Garages (MG) Motor Philippines, under the management of SAIC Motor Philippines, will be showcasing three new nameplates at the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) 2026

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is MG Motor Philippines showcasing at PIMS 2026?

MG Motor Philippines could showcase the RX9 PHEV, next-gen 4 EV, and HS PHEV at PIMS 2026.
  • What is MG Motor Philippines’ theme for PIMS 2026?

MG Motor Philippines’ theme for PIMS 2026 is “The Next Wave Continues.”
  • The aforementioned was made apparent by a teaser, which was posted a few days ago on the brand’s official social media channels.

As with any teaser, the three cars are shrouded in shadow. These, however, are said to form part of MG Motor’s ongoing thrust in hybrid and new energy vehicles in the local market. Interestingly, MG’s theme for PIMS 2026 is also a follow-up of “The New Wave of MG” theme that it initially fielded at this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

“The Next Wave Continues represents MG’s ongoing journey toward the future of mobility,” President of MG Motor Philippines Wei Wei Zhang said.

“As we continue to expand our electrified lineup and introduce more advanced technologies, our goal remains clear: to provide Filipino customers with innovative, accessible, and globally competitive mobility solutions that move with the times and evolve with their needs,” Zhang added.

MG at PIMS 2026: what to expect

If we had to guess based on the shapes of the shadowy cars on the teaser, MG Motor Philippines could be showcasing the RX9 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the HS PHEV, and the next-generation 4 EV.

To reiterate, these are speculative and are not set in stone just yet. The brand, after all, has yet to confirm these cars for the local market, but our educated guesses for the three models are based on the outlines and LED headlamp shapes from the PIMS 2026 teaser.

Notably, all three of these nameplates are already included in the Department of Energy’s list of certified new energy vehicles. All three are tagged under “2026 model year,” and all are slotted in the “M1” or passenger vehicle category.

According to its DOE papers, the MG RX9 PHEV is a mid-size, three-row crossover propelled by a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four gasoline mill paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM).

Altogether, this system can produce up to 323 horsepower (hp). Its electric motor alone produces 390 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque, while its gasoline engine produces 230 Nm. The model also has an electric-only range of 100 kilometers (km), regenerative braking, and a Type 2 charging port. Its specsheet on the DOE site, however, does not indicate its charge speed.

The MG HS PHEV, meanwhile, uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that’s linked to a single PMSM. It also has 100 km of all-electric range and a Type 2 charge port. On its own, its gasoline engine produces 140 hp and 230 Nm of torque. Its electric motor, on the other hand, can dish out 181 hp and 340 Nm of torque.

Last but not least is the second-generation MG 4 EV, which now utilizes the SAIC E3 electric vehicle platform. The one heading to the local market is indicated by the DOE as a front-wheel-drive model with a peak output of 160 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It also has a range of 325 km, according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP).

Again, these are merely educated guesses based on the teaser and the DOE’s recognized list of new energy vehicles.
