Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer revealed
MANILA: Not so long ago, Mitsubishi released images of the Engelberg Tourer concept announcing the revealing of the SUV to take place at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. After all the wait, the conceptual SUV has stepped on the podium.
And boy has the concept given rise to some mixed opinions. Named after the Swiss town Engelberg, the SUV by Mitsubishi holds little to no resemblance to the alpine city in terms of its styling, which, has also not been liked by many.
The front fascia of the SUV includes what Mitsubishi calls Dynamic Shield which is now “enhanced for a more active type of lifestyle”. The Engelberg Tourer also gets an automatic open/close roof box which has LED fog lamps too. Skid plates can also be seen on the car. On the inside,
the SUV features a three-row seating arrangement and emphasises on quality, comfort, and functionality. Talking of the mechanicals, the Engelberg Tourer is a Twin Motor 4WD Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
The SUV gets a full-time four-wheel-drive courtesy the two motor which power the front and rear wheels. Mitsubishi’s Active Yaw Control (AYC) system is also present on the SUV. For the high regeneration rate, the concept has been equipped with a 2.4-litre gasoline engine.
The Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) improves Acceleration, cornering, and stopping of the Engelberg Tourer. The S-AWC is capable of doing this by effectively manipulating the individual brake force on each of the four tyres along with controlling the power output of the two electric motors.
While the EV cruising range has been claimed at 70-km, Mitsubishi says that the SUV can cover around 700-km when having a tank full of fuel and a wholly charged battery. The unconventional designing language of the Engelberg Tourer makes it clear that the SUV will certainly go under some more chisel and hammer before coming out in its production form. However, we might see the elements of Engelberg, both aesthetic and mechanical, making their way to the next-generation Outlander PHEV.
