OLX Philippines releases the list of most searched cars and bikes in used vehicle market

MANILA: Looks like the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law in the Philippines has changed the automobile buying preference of the countrymen. Considering the high price tags of the vehicles due to the tax implied and the alterations in income tax norms, the locals have shifted their preference towards used cars and two-wheelers. At least, a recent report from OLX suggests so.

According to OLX Philippines, there has been a surge in demand of used cars and motorcycles in the country. The company released the list of most searched cars and bikes by the people on its website. And the result is interesting. Given the rising preference of SUVs over sedans not only in the Philippines but all across the world, it is quite surprising that the vehicle in most demand in the used car market is a sedan.

Yes, the Honda Civic has clinched the top spot in the most searched vehicle on OLX Philippines. One of the most trusted and reliable nameplates from the land of the rising sun, the Honda Civic is currently in its tenth generation, but there are a lot of pristine samples of previous generations still plying on the roads.

After the Honda Civic, other vehicles which have been most searched on OLX Philippines are mostly SUVs, the names of which include Toyota’s Fortuner and Innova, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, and Hyundai Starex. Another sedan which has caught the fancy of netizens is Mitsubishi Lancer, the older iterations of which are sought out more due to their prowess in driving dynamics and cheap mechanicals.

When it comes to two-wheelers, the Japanese automakers have a clear-cut dominance in the used vehicle market. From all of them, Yamaha has been sought out the most with its Mio, a gearless scooter, ruling the roost. Such is the dominance and goodwill of Yamaha in the used two-wheeler market, that out of top ten bikes, four are from the brand. Other manufacturers which have also been showed trust upon are Kawasaki, Ducati, Vespa, Rusi and Harley Davidson.

Manuel Romen, the head of OLX Philippines, has stated, “It’s interesting to see which car models the market is looking up online. The most-searched list, which has some regulars and new nameplates, reveals consumers’ preference in 2018. Because of the upswing in motorcycle demand, the first-ever roundup of the most popular motorbike brands and models in terms of search this year is also available.”
