PH-spec GAC E8 to be offered in 2 variants

MANILA: The GAC E8 will likely be introduced in two variants.

Recently, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) released another document showing a possible another trim under the nameplate. The anticipated additional variant was also seen in the Department of Energy’s list of recognized electrified models in the local market.

The release of the latest homologation paper for the Chinese automaker followed the preview at the Manila International Auto Show last April, which could mean that GAC Motor Philippines is readying its launch this 2026—probably within the third quarter of the year. 

So, while waiting for its official launch, here are some bits of information about the yet-to-be-launched GAC E8.

Vehicle specification

With the LTO issuing another document, the GAC E8 will likely be offered in two variants: GL and GX. These two options measure:

Their curb weights differ as the GL (which is the lower trim) is 80 kilograms lighter than its higher-end stablemate.

Powering both versions will be a 2.0-liter gasoline-fed engine an electric motor at the front that can dish out:

Maximum engine output (in horsepower [hp>)	138
Peak engine torque (in Newton-meters [Nm>)	180
Maximum motor output (in horsepower [hp>)	182
Peak motor torque (in Newton-meters [Nm>)	300

Mated to a dedicated hybrid transmission, the vehicle can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour and deliver a fuel efficiency of 17.95 kilometers per liter (based on Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle standards).

Providing  their stopping power are their disc brakes on all four wheels while assuring stability are their suspension made up of McPherson struts at the front and torsion beam-type for the rear.

Depending on the trim, the Philippine-spec GAC E8 will have the following exterior portions:

• Height adjustable, automatic LED headlights with light-on reminder and delayed shutdown features
• LED daytime running lights
• Electronically fold and adjust side mirrors with heating functions
• 17-to 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in 225/55 or 225/50 tires
• Frameless auto-sensing front windshield wipers
• Frameless rear windshield wiper
• LED rear illumination (position lamps, turn signals, and high-mounted brake light

Inside, the vehicle’s leather covered interior is complemented by the 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment system (with Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple Carplay-connectivity) mated to a six- or eight-speaker set.

It also has a standard 12-volt power outlet and seven USB ports (five Type-A and two Type-C) as well as a wireless phone charging dock for the upper trim.

• Dual-zone air-conditioning system with PM2.5 air filter
• Power adjustable seats for front occupants
• Second-row seats with ventilation and massage functions, zero-gravity function as well as electronically adjustable leg rests
• Flat-folding, third-row chairs with 40:60 and “Tea Break” mode
• Sunroof

Further, the GAC E8’s top-tier variant is expected to be equipped with:

• Adaptive Cruise Control
• Traffic Jam Assist
• Integrated Cruise Assist
• Automatic Emergency Braking
• Forward Collision Warning
• High Beam Assist
• Lane Keeping Assist
• Lane Departure Warning
