Sat-nav Breadcrumbs by Ford is a blessing for the off-road wanderers
MANILA: Owners of the Ford Ranger, Ranger Raptor, and other off-road capable vehicles by the blue oval automaker can be found conquering the trails more often than not. And, while it's all fun exploring the unearthed,
it can become a big pain in no time if you lose your way back home. With that said, Ford has come up with a simple yet very effective method of helping the wanderers find their way back.
Called Breadcrumbs, the tech by Ford drops a "virtual pin" on the map when the vehicle is being driven, and then provides the driver with a newly generated path to reach back to the starting point. “When enabled in the SYNC® 3 navigation settings,
the Breadcrumbs feature works in the background to drop a virtual pin every second while out on the trail. When drivers need to return to the road, the feature provides them with a guide to get back to their starting point – without the stress of relocating landmarks,” said Ford.
Ford is also offering some additional equipment to make the Ranger even more off-road capable. The additional equipment includes a winch-capable front bumper, leveling kit, electronic locking rear differential, and a Terrain Management System with Trail Control.
“Based on satellite technology, the Satnav Breadcrumbs feature is included in Ranger’s navigation system and is available on XLT and Lariat series trucks. Breadcrumbs is also available on other Built Ford Tough trucks equipped with SYNC 3 and navigation technology,” cited Ford.
Even in the Philippines, the Ford Ranger is one of the top-selling pickup trucks. The American offering is available with a 3.0-litre Duratorq 4-cylinder 16 valve DOHC engine making 156 PS and 380 Nm. Another powerhouse that is on offer with the Ranger is a 2.5-litre Duratorq 4-pot 16 valve DOHC engine churning out 143 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 330 Nm.
The Philippine-spec Range Raptor, on the other hand, gets a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine that pumps out 215 PS of top power output and 500 Nm of peak torque. While the Raptor features a 10-speed automatic transmission, the smaller Ranger is on offer with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
So, with the Ranger, Ranger Raptor, and other sat-nav Breadcrumbs equipped Ford vehicles, exploring the off-road paths is going to all that more fun, right?
