Ford Ranger wins 2020 International pickup award

MANILA: At a special award ceremony held in Sweden, the iconic Ford Ranger received the tag of 2020 International Pick-up. Loaded with several technical and safety appointments, the new Ranger grabbed the award against Mitsubishi Strada, Nissan Navara, Renault Alaskan, and Toyota Hilux. This is the second time when Ranger got this acclaim, earlier it has crowned as the best pickup in 2013. 

The 2020 Ford Ranger is powered by 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel unit and comprised of advanced driver assistance technologies. A team of 18 members judged the vehicles in a 3-day group test. The jury analyzed the vehicles on different parameters, including engine efficiency, capability and load volume,

safety aspects, and operational cost from a business point of view. Ranger stood first with 78 points and followed by Mitsubishi Strada with 72 points. The Toyota Hilux grabbed the third position. Not only this, but the jury also selected Ranger as “be the best all-rounder.” 

Hans Schep, general manager commercial vehicles of Ford Europe, said, “We are delighted that the Ford Ranger has been recognized by the IPUA jury for a second time, which is a testament to the enduring appeal of Europe’s favorite Pick-up. With its all-new powertrain and enhanced capability – not to mention the exciting new Raptor model – the Ranger is now moving the game on once again.”

The firm says, “Ford’s new 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines build on the innovative technology of the award-winning EcoBoost petrol engines, which are renowned for their superb performance and fuel efficiency,” which seems very apt for the Ranger.

If we talk about the other winners of IPUA, Volkswagen Amarok V6 got the honor in 2018, Nissan NP300 Navara in 2016, and Volkswagen Amarok in 2011.
