There is an updated Nissan Almera in Thailand

MANILA: We told you sedans are here to stay, didn’t we? Everything moves forward in a cycle, and in the course are peaks and troughs. There will be an interest for a while, and then people will get attracted to some other segments. However, there will be recovery and the interest will back. Continuous interest can be taken as a flat line, and what does a flat line means on a cardiograph? We guess you all know that.

We have had the all-new Vios this year, and its commercial has got Anne Curtis and Gerald Anderson. Then we have the facelifted Suzuki Ciaz. How could Nissan lag behind then? Here comes the Japanese automaker with its updated sedan, the Almera. Unveiled in the Thai-market, the updated Nissan Almera features more or less the same design language as the pre-facelift model. However, the Sportech variant has received some key updates which include a new bumper at the front with horizontally slated DRLs on either end. Machine-finished alloy wheels, side skirts, a rear bumper kit, and a spoiler are also part of the Sportech package. The sedan also gets a new blue paint scheme.

Move inside the new Almera and the scenery is quite different now. The steering is now a 3-spoke unit with a flat bottom. The touchscreen is not larger than before and the door panels also feature new trimmings and paddings. The updated Philippine-spec Almera has also got an updated touchscreen but there ain’t no door paddings and the flat-bottom steering wheel for us.

All the variants in the Thai-spec Almera get the 1.2-litre motor, the engine we get on our base model. The motor is good enough for 99 PS of maximum power and 134 Nm of peak torque. A five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic are the available transmission options. The Thai-spec Almera uses the smaller engine in order to compete in Thailand’s Eco Car class. Let’s wait and see if the other changes in the Thai-spec Almera make their way to our sedan as well or not. With the updates coming, the Almera has for sure got some years left in it and is here to stay for a while.
