Toyota Camry - Safety explained

The Toyota Camry is the automaker’s mid-size sedan offering. This particular model has received mixed reviews over the years due to its lack of character. For the all-new Camry, the Japanese automaker gave the vehicle upgrades in terms of both style and tech.

The latest version is currently the eighth-generation Camry and has been outfitted with the latest technology features. Besides a top-notch entertainment system and its 3-zone automatic control cabin, Toyota included advanced safety features fit for the modern driver.

Before we delve into the Camry’s safety features, we listed a couple of facts you should know about the Toyota Camry:

Toyota Camry front

Here are a few facts about the Toyota Camry:

  • The Toyota Camry is the Japanese automaker’s foray into the midsize sedan segment
  • Only one engine is available for the vehicle: a 4-cylinder 2.5-liter gasoline engine which can be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission
  • While still using the same engine from the previous generation, Toyota gave it a much-needed tune-up to add significantly more horsepower
  • The plush interiors for the latest version took inspiration from the Lexus ES 350

Two variants are available for the Toyota Camry — the G and V. For those who prefer the sleek White Pearl finish on the vehicle, you will need to shell out a bit more money to avail this; namely, P15,000. In terms of price range, it is similar to most midsize sedans currently on the market. We listed the price of each variant below:

Price list

Here is a look at the Toyota Camry price list:

Toyota Camry 2.5 G A/T  ₱1,841,000
 Toyota Camry 2.5 G A/T (White Pearl) ₱1,856,000
 Toyota Camry 2.5 V A/T  ₱2,027,000
 Toyota Camry 2.5 V A/T (White Pearl)  ₱2,042,000

As midsize sedans are becoming more competitive in the family-dominated market, it is paramount to equip vehicles with advanced safety features that are designed for both maximum prevention and protection.

Toyota Camry airbags

Toyota Camry specs sheet is loaded with safety features including ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, SRS airbags (driver, passenger, side, curtain shield, and knee), high mount stop lamp, immobiliser, and clearance and back sonar sensors.

Safety features

Heads-up display

A heads-up display system can be typically found on high-end vehicles such as the BMW 7 Series, Volvo XC90, and Jaguar XF. The main purpose of a heads-up display is to minimize distractions from the driver by removing the constant need of checking the infotainment system on the dashboard. Instead, the information is displayed on the windshield, ensuring that the driver keeps their eyes on the road at all times.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS)

An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is a standard safety feature found in virtually all vehicles today. It uses a skid-braking system that prevents the wheels from locking up when braking. This allows it to maintain traction on the road, preventing accidents from happening.

Child lock protection

Child safety locks are typically built into the rear passenger doors, preventing the passenger from opening the doors while the car is either stationary or in transit. As midsize sedans are becoming more attractive to families, this feature has been integrated into more and more models. Unfortunately, not all vehicles have this feature. However, Toyota included this along with ISOFIX seats, which is the standard for child safety seats in cars.

Clearance and back sonar sensors

These clearance sonar sensors are part of Toyota’s own Safety Sense intelligent technology. This involves eight sensors located on the front, front corners, rear, and rear corners. This allows it to detect objects in your surroundings and notifies the driver when it gets too near to the vehicle. It also has an automatic braking feature that kicks in when the object and vehicle are close to contact.

Vehicle stability control

This is also a key feature designed by Toyota for situations with unstable or challenging terrain. Traversing unstable terrain can result in loss of traction and corner, which is why the vehicle stability control feature ensures that you remain on course. Steering wheel sensors monitor when the vehicle experiences wheel slippage and automatically stabilizes. This is especially ideal for slippery roads. Considering the erratic bouts of rain and accident-prone areas in the Philippines, this is a valuable feature.

Verdict

The all-new Toyota Camry is definitely a game-changer in the local MPV segment. As the demand for safety continues to grow, these safety features are highly significant for the modern driver.
