KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is the engine of the all-new Toyota GR GT?
The Toyota GR GT uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo hybrid V8 engine. How much horsepower and torque can the Toyota GR GT produce?
As per Toyota’s development targets, the GR GT can produce up to 641 horsepower and 850 Newton-meters of torque.Currently, the two models are pre-production prototypes. Still, their mere existence reaffirms TGR’s dedication to building motorsports-oriented cars in the same vein as the now discontinued Lexus LFA.
Toyota GR GT
The Toyota GR GT is TGR’s all-new flagship model, which the company says was developed from the ground up as a “road-legal race car.”
Under its hood is a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, thus marking the company’s newest eight-cylinder high-performance model since the introduction of the Lexus LC 500 back in 2016.
As befitting a flagship TGR nameplate, the GR GT’s eventual production version will boast a beefy engine tune with a maximum output of 641 horsepower and 850 Newton-meters or greater. At the moment, the said figures are set as TGR’s development target values for the GR GT.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a “newly developed eight-speed automatic” with a “wet-start clutch” and a mechanical limited-slip differential. The model also comes with a transaxle-integrated single motor setup, which means that it is actually a hybrid vehicle.
Underpinning the GR GT is Toyota’s first-ever all-aluminum body frame. The aforementioned goes together with other materials, such as carbon fiber reinforced plastic.
The chassis was likewise engineered to have a low center of gravity, with its large eight-cylinder engine and seating positioned as low as possible. Otherwise, Toyota says that it likewise made sure that the cockpit provides an optimal driving position with uncompromised visibility.
For now, only a few interior features or safety equipment for the GR GT have been discussed in detail by Toyota, and some of these specs are also subject to change as development for the vehicle goes on.
It does, however, come with a driver-oriented cockpit with digital displays, as well as driving-related physical switches positioned as close as possible to its leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Likewise available to the GR GT is an adjustable vehicle stability control system that allows for direct control of driving and braking forces. Basically, a user can choose the amount of intervention the system can perform, making the driving experience more secure and stable or more raw.
Its exterior, meanwhile, was developed with a “reverse approach,” which optimized its aerodynamics first before even considering the elements of its styling.
It is apparent, though, that Toyota and TGR are building the GR GT in-house without the need for partnerships with other brands.
In the past, the Aichi-based company produced the Toyota GR 86 together with Subaru. The Toyota GR Supra, meanwhile, was built in collaboration with BMW.

Toyota GR GT3
Debuting alongside the Toyota GR GT is the GR GT3. Essentially, this model is the FIA GT3-spec race car version of the model detailed above.
Similar to its road-focused sibling, the GR GT3 comes with a low-slung stance and a highly aerodynamic body. But based on the pictures shared by Toyota, it sports a more aggressive aero kit with a prominent rear wing, a huge front lip, and loads of cooling ducts.
Like the Toyota GR GT, the GR GT3 will also utilize a 4.0-liter V8 engine, but without the transaxle electric motor. And again, no other specs for the GR GT3 were shared, but it was described by Toyota as a “race car chosen by people who want to win.”
As of this writing, Toyota has not yet disclosed the exact launch date for the production models of the GR GT and the GR GT3. Again, they are currently in development, but the company looks forward to a formal launch of a production version sometime in 2027.
