Toyota Innova: Features explained

The Innova has been serving the world for many years now. Not only it changed the way we looked at MUVs but also set a new benchmark in the segment that has given some nightmares to other car brands forcing them to re-think their strategies. Today, the Innova continues to thrash its competitors in the market with its features, price, and of course, brand value.

The Innova got its last major update in 2016 which added a list of new features, new design & styling, and better interiors. The Toyota Innova price in the Philippines starts at Php 1.02 million for the base model and to get the top-end variant you would need to spend Php 1.67 million. This price range isn’t too big but it includes a total of 12 different variants. Here are some of the top features of the Toyota Innova that makes it a better MUV than its competitors.

On the outside

In the last major upgrade, Toyota did what was really necessary. It revamped the styling of the Innova. As a result, the new model is better-looking than the previous one in every aspect. We love how the designers at Toyota managed to blend modern styling and elegance together.

Upfront we have a large set of projector LED headlamps that look fabulous on this MUV. Then we have got the newly designed front grille that has just the right amount of chrome to make the car look elegant and not too flamboyant. The side view of the Innova gives a silhouette of the previous model and it looks just fine. Being a MUV, it does have a tallboy appearance.

The rear end of the Innova is somewhat less exciting than the front. Perhaps, it has something to do with its boxy design or the two-piece combination tail lights. But it should not be a deal breaker. We do like the roof-mounted rear spoiler though which adds a bit of sportiness to the car.

On the inside

Toyota also worked pretty hard on the interior of the new Innova as it is now more luxurious, feature-laden, and comfortable than before. Premium materials like leather and faux-wood are used to enhance the overall riding experience and feel of the cabin. For example, the 4-spoke steering wheel comes wrapped in leather and has mounted controls.

The dashboard has a new floating design that looks very cool. There is a large 7- or 8-inch touch screen infotainment system that supports most of the latest connectivity options like Bluetooth, USB, AUX, etc.

You can even get a model which provides you with captain seats in the 2nd row. This is another feature that enhances the comfort level that you can have in the Innova. Talking about comfort, the cabin space is humongous and you would not need to worry about that. You also get AC vents for the rear passengers.

Under the hood

One of the most impressive parts of the Toyota Innova specs is its powertrain. There are two engines to pick from - one diesel and one petrol. First up, the diesel mill is a 2.8-litre unit with a DOHC setup and variable nozzle turbocharger along with an intercooler. This engine has been tuned to produce 171 hp in the A/T model and 167 hp in case of the M/T variant.

The peak torque output is 360 Nm and 343 Nm for the A/T and M/T model, respectively. The other engine option is a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated gasoline unit which produces 136 hp and 183 Nm. Both the engines can be had with either a manual or an automatic gearbox.

Safety features

We know that Toyota makes very reliable vehicles and safety is always high on its priorities, however, the Innova lacks in advanced safety measures. This might have been done to keep the costs in check. But it does come with some of the basic features like SRS airbags, vehicle stability control, hill start assist control, ABS with EBD and brake assist.
