Toyota Mobility Foundation turns over 3 Tamaraw shuttles to PGH

MANILA: Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), together with Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation, has donated three Tamaraw Utility Vans to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). The aforementioned is a part of the Healthcare Mobility for All (HEAL) Program, which was introduced last month. 

The three Toyota Tamaraw units will form the Shuttle Service component of the HEAL Program to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transport for PGH staff. In doing so, Toyota’s charitable arm will aid PGH in ensuring that its workers can continue to serve patients effectively. 

“Through our bespoke Shuttle Services, we are providing greater opportunity for healthcare professionals to focus on their vital role of patient care, while addressing the burden of inconvenient and inefficient commutes,” Executive Director of TMF Pras Ganesh said. 

Per TMF, the three Tamaraw Utility Van Shuttle Service units will ply the “three busiest routes for PGH employees.” The aforementioned includes Fairview, Paliparan, and SM Dasma via Aguinaldo. The vehicles will be deployed during late-night and early-morning hours, where public transport is harder to access.

Each unit is capable of seating up to 12 passengers, and they will be fielded for at least two trips per day. One will serve the PGH graveyard shift, and another will serve the early morning shifts. 

 

In order to make the shuttle service more effective, TMF will be fielding an app-based smart booking system later this year. The said app will enable PGH staffers to reserve a seat in advance. It will also ensure that the service will be used to its full capability, thus reducing emissions. 

Toyota Tamaraw in PH

In the Philippine market, the Toyota Tamaraw has a price ranging from P767,000-P1.54 million. 

The most affordable variant is the Dropside Gas MT (manual), while the most expensive is the Food Truck MT Diesel. 

For its engine, the Philippine-spec Tamaraw is available with a 2.0-liter 1TR-FE inline-4 gasoline engine or a 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV (high) inline-4 turbodiesel mill. Depending on the trim, the Toyota-made model uses a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

Notably, all Tamaraw variants use a ladder-frame chassis equipped with an independent front suspension and a rigid leaf spring for its rear end. Braking, meanwhile, is provided by front discs and rear drums.
