Xpeng X9 gains 5-star ANCAP safety rating

MANILA: The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has awarded a five-star safety rating to the Xpeng X9 all-electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). 

In further breaking down its results, the X9 received a rating of 91 percent for crash protection, 91 percent for post-crash, 82 percent for crash avoidance, and 56 percent for safe driving. 

Under the ANCAP’s crash protection category, the electric vehicle (EV) scored a high 95 percent rating for driver, front passenger, and rear passenger (including children) in the frontal offset crash test. The X9’s full-width frontal crash, side-impact protection, and far-side impact crash tests, on the other hand, netted a full 100 percent rating for all occupant types. 

It likewise received a high 98 percent rating for whiplash protection and 99 percent for the side impact oblique pole test. 

Notably, ANCAP also lauded the Xpeng X9’s post-crash capabilities. Under this category, the vehicle received perfect scores for multi-collision braking, seatbelt buckle unlatching, and automatic door opening following a collision. 

Moreover, ANCAP noted the X9’s ability to isolate its EV battery voltage during an accident, thereby improving post-crash fire risk management. 

While it didn’t get a perfect overall score for crash avoidance, ANCAP said the X9’s advanced driver-assist systems performed rather well. It netted 100 percent ratings for avoiding low-speed car-to-car collisions and hitting a pedestrian when reversing. 

Per ANCAP’s report on the Xpeng X9, the tests mentioned above apply to all variants. It didn’t explicitly say whether this includes the Philippine market version. Regardless, local would-be adopters of the X9 can be assured of its crash safety, as we can surmise that the Philippine-spec version shares a considerable number of features with the Australian and New Zealand market versions tested by ANCAP.

Xpeng X9 in PH

In the Philippines, the Xpeng X9 MPV has a price ranging from P3.858 million-P4.058 million. Its top-spec version is the X9 with Second Row Premium Seat Package. 

Propelling the model is a front-wheel-drive electric powertrain that can generate up to 315 horsepower and 450 Newton-meters of torque. It also has a range of 615 kilometers and a charge speed of 10-80 percent in just 12 minutes. 

The model also gets an intelligent dual-chamber air suspension system and a reduced turning radius thanks to its active rear-wheel steering. 

Inside the Premium Seat Package trim, the model gets fancy seats with powered headrest adjustment and a massage function. Other noteworthy amenities found inside the model include, but are not limited to: 

• Triple-zone automatic climate control
• Nappa leather upholstery
• Ambient lighting system
• 15.6-inch infotainment display with Snapdragon 8295 chip
• 23-piece speaker set
• Six-zone voice control
• Digital rear-view mirror
