Zigwheels weekly wrap-up: August 11-15

MANILA: This week’s hottest news in the local motoring industry includes new vehicle launches, dealership openings, and mall tours. 

As for the country’s motorcycle market, the industry is abuzz with new nameplates. 

Meanwhile, the Philippines’ aftermarket sector welcomes a storied name. 

This week’s automotive news 

This week, we saw two new automotive launches from Chinese carmakers looking to take a slice of the pie held by major Japanese brands. 

Hongqi launches E-HS9, E-QM5

Hongqi Philippines released the latest iterations of the E-HS9, E-QM5 electric vehicles. 

The Hongqi E-HS9 is a model aimed at the country’s premium segment and packs boatloads of features that deliver modern luxuries on wheels. Meanwhile, the E-QM5 offers decent features for those wanting to drive an executive sedan in style.

Jaecoo PH rolls out J7 SHS 

The other half of the Omoda and Jaecoo twin brands has released the Jaecoo J7 SHS — a hybrid sport utility vehicle that is as sustainable as it is adventurous. 

It looks to penetrate the country’s hybrid category with some impressive features.

Tour of duty 

Aside from new vehicles adding to the country’s ever-growing roster, some brands started touring their latest offerings for the public to see. 

Geely Motors Philippines is taking the EX5 and Okavango Elite to three select malls until September.

Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company Philippines is doing the same for the Territory Hybrid and the Mustang Mach-E, but on a wider scale until October.

Holding the fort

Likewise, some brands are opening new dealership locations to strengthen their foothold in the Philippine automobile industry. 

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation has opened a new service and spare parts facility in East National Capital Region, as a way to bolster its support to the company’s growing number of customers.

Similarly, Hyundai Motor Philippines Incorporated has opened a new dealership in Calamba, Laguna — effectively growing its network to 41.

United Asia Automotive Group Incorporated too, opened new dealers in the Northern part of the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue area for its BAIC and Lynk & Co. brands.

Some aftermarket, aftersales news 

Tesla owners can now enjoy the company of fellows after the American car brand established its own club here in the country; while storied Japanese wheel manufacturer Enkei, formally entered the Philippine aftermarket scene thanks to a partnership with Wheel Gallery Incorporated (also known as Concept One Wheels) and YHI Philippines Incorporated.

Moto buzz 

In the country’s ever-busy motorcycle scene, some brands celebrated their wins. 

Honda Philippines Incorporated has marked the rollout of the nine millionth motorcycle it has produced in the country — an XRM 125.
