Suzuki Philippines Incorporated has expanded its electrified lineup with the local entry of the Dzire Hybrid. 

With a price ranging from just P920,000-P998,000, the aforementioned model stands as an attractive option for car buyers looking for a fuel-efficient sub-compact sedan that’s great for in-city driving. 

The Dzire Hybrid, however, is available in two different variants locally. There’s the Suzuki Dzire GL Hybrid and the top-spec Dzire GLX Hybrid. So, what are the differences between the two? Let’s find out here. 

Suzuki Dzire GLX Hybrid

Exterior

Style-wise, the Dzire GLX Hybrid wears an evolved appearance that provides it with a keener, more modern overall look. 

Up front, the GLX trim comes with a pair of sharp-looking multi-LED reflector headlamp clusters with a guide-me-home and automatic functionality. The said headlights straddle a wide chrome-accented grille topped by a sculpted hood. 

From the side, the top-spec variant features power-folding and power-adjustable side mirrors, as well as a set of 15-inch wheels. 

Other notable exterior equipment available on the Suzuki Dzire GLX Hybrid includes the following: 

• LED daytime running lamps
• LED rear combination lamps
• Rear window defogger
• LED front fog lamps
• Trunk-mounted spoiler
• Shark-fin antenna

Interior

Inside, the Suzuki Dzire GLX Hybrid comes with a sufficient amount of creature comforts and driving-related features. 

Available for the top-of-the-line trim is a nine-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is linked to four speakers, and it also has Bluetooth connectivity. 

The five occupants inside the GLX are kept cool by an automatic air conditioning (AC) system and are nestled in the cabin by fabric-clad seats. Also available are rear cabin AC vents, a 12-volt accessory outlet, and a sufficient number of bottle and cup holders. 

 For the one piloting the vehicle, the GLX provides a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a manual hand-operated parking brake, and an analog gauge cluster paired with a liquid crystal display (LCD). The said cluster can provide information on exterior temperature, fuel consumption, and driving range. 

Other notable amenities present inside the Suzuki Dzire GLX Hybrid include the following:

• Low fuel warning lamp
• Clock
• Second row armrest

Safety

Safety-wise, the Suzuki Dzire GLX Hybrid was equipped with anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, hill-hold control, brake assist, dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, an engine immobilizer, and a car alarm. 

To ensure easy parking, the Dzire Hybrid also comes with a rearview camera and rear parking sensors. 

Powertrain

Under the hood of the Suzuki Dzire GLX Hybrid is a 1.2-liter inline-3 gasoline engine paired with a 12-volt hybrid system and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). In total, its powertrain can generate up to 80 horsepower and 111.7 Newton-meters of torque. 

Additionally, the model comes standard with Suzuki’s Auto-Stop-Start system, which automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop. With a press of the accelerator, the engine comes back to life, allowing one to continue driving. 

Ride quality for the nameplate is ensured by a front MacPherson strut and a torsion beam rear suspension. Stopping power, meanwhile, is provided by front discs and rear drums. 

Suzuki Dzire GL Hybrid

Appearance-wise, the entry-level Suzuki Dzire GL Hybrid doesn’t deviate that much from the top-spec GLX, but it does have a simpler set of exterior equipment. 

For starters, the GL rides on smaller 14-inch wheels. It also has manual folding and adjustable side mirrors, halogen projector headlamps, and no LED daytime running lamps. The said pair of halogens also lacks the automatic functionality available on the GLX. 

Inside, the Suzuki Dzire GL Hybrid comes with a smaller seven-inch touchscreen and no front tweeters. It does carry over the GLX’s connectivity options, but it gets a more basic urethane-wrapped steering wheel. 

Likewise absent from the entry-level trim are a push-to-start button, automatic air-conditioning, an exterior temperature meter, and the silver trims found around the instrument cluster. 

Regarding safety gear and its powertrain, there is virtually no difference between the GL and top-spec GLX. 

Final thoughts

In summary, the biggest difference between the Suzuki Dzire GL Hybrid and the Dzire GLX Hybrid is the entry-level trim’s simpler halogen headlights and its smaller infotainment display. 

Having a smaller display can be tolerated by some buyers, but having a larger screen can make it easier to see and use. 

A car with LED headlights, however, will always have better forward visibility compared to one with halogens. Regardless, modern halogen technology can still provide sufficient brightness in most driving situations.
